Hmmmmm..... Do realise that a average lawyer makes more than a average physicist. Most people do realise that they are not and will never be the "top earner" in the field they chose. So, you compare the top-earners (a.k.a. the best in their field) with the average lawyer or doctor. Be fair, and compare the top-earners in physics with the top earners in law or medicine.
Sometimes I kick myself because I'm a average computer scientist. I should have become a average lawyer. I would have my own large house instead of paying rent for a two bedroom apartment.
And everone knows what the mafia does with competitors.
No, I don't... I haven't seen any competitors to the mafia in ages... there used to be some. Where have they gone? Last time I heard something about fishes, but a fishing trip can't last that long, eh?
It is? I have worked in IT at financial institutions in the last 10 years. Nothing what he said sounds even remotely improbable. If you knew the stuff, I have seen, you can be happy that a simple wire tranfer doesn't fuck up every time.
Here 0$/month, 0.13 cent/SMS, 0.13 cent/minute (anytime in the day, to anywhere within the country including other cellphones). Sending MMS is more expensive (0.57 cent/MMS), but I haven't done that yet. (Currencies converted with Google at todays rates)
My phone bills rarely exceed 20€/month and that's for my and my wifes phone.
Nah, but consider it this way: Microsoft wants us to waste our time on slashdot. Imagine if only half of the people here started to help with open source;-)
Actually, the biggest innovations weren't made by Big Pharma, they just took the concept added research and then made money out of it. That's okay, but I mainly was saying that a pandemic will not wipe out humanity. It look in larger concepts than just my own survival. I looked at the survival of the species because you seemed to imply that it now was only in the hands of Big Pharma. It isn't.
As for AIDS, you do realise that those people over there won't get the drugs because they can't pay for them, because of intellectual property.
Malaria: just have sickle cells, you won't be affected as much. Evolution at work, sir!
The reason big farma is needed is because of our *civilization* sicknesses. Evolution is not kind, and if you die you do not deserve to procreate. It has been like that for eons, but we humans don't seem to accept it.
Some of use will naturally be resistant. It's how evolution works. Sure, a lot of people will die, but some will survive and humanity running. (Note that I did not say "civilisation")
The pharmaceutical companies simply cannot protect us from a pandemic. You never know when and what agent will become active and start to kill humans.
Similar to that hot chick you have been chatting up for months online... when she told you "I am a little big, but cute", deep down, you know she is a cross between a human and a hippo, but when you finally meet her, you want to dig your eyes out with a mechanical pencil.
You don't seem to know how horny neglected fat chicks can be.... So, if she really got a pretty face but she doesn't conform to the "Kate Moss" body style, give it a shot anyway.
A really old codebase, because I have made an XP installation CD with SP2 and it works just fine on SATA machines. At least those that I have tried it on.
IE7, although not as standards compliant as... uhm... pretty much every other browser on earth, is orders of magnitude better than IE6.
That is most probably true, but I've been using Firefox for ages. I don't need nor want IE7. It will waste my bandwidth and it will waste my disk space. IE7 is not welcome on my system, because I chose to use better alternatives.
In my experience in Germany at least, the prices of books are entirely fixed by a cartel BY LAW and it's illegal to sell them below that cartel's set prices. Pretty sad in a country that values learning so highly.
I have two links for you amazon.de and amazon.com. 49.95€ versus 118$ (which is 80€) for the same frigging book. Heck, it's worse because the German version has been translated. Care to explain? I guess the European system does make sense when you value learning. (The English version is 80€ on amazon.de too, but you guessed surely guessed that, otherwhise I could make money by buying it here and sell it to US citizens)
Oh, and this is not an exception... It's pretty much the rule.
Myself - and most men I know, frankly - are the exact opposite. Shopping for anything is a chore. We don't wander aisles. We don't make surprise purchases.
That's one reason why I go grocery shopping instead of my wife: it saves money;-)
Just a nitpick: ISO and ECMA are not related.

I doubt that Verizon operates in my country ;-) So, no erroneous bills for you :-P
She's hot and you're just angry she turned you down! ;-)
Ooops... That's dollars.... My mistake... This happens when posting without coffee. Sorry about that.

There are way much more variation between "normal bodied" and "morbidly obese". The latter is what you describe.

LOL! Good one!
Read a bit further down... *evil grin*.
Personally, I'd go for a GGG Girl ;-) (Yeah, I know, the last G already stands for Girl...)

No, they haven't forgotten.... However, most 98 installations are gone, and XP is good. I think many people have "forgiven".
I invoke Godwin's law.
