    1) Does no research (because no background information will be needed)

    2) Has a contract that allows all their students to use someone else's library, so they don't need to "waste" money/space on their own library
    or
    3) It's a party school and no one goes to the library anyway (everything they ever needed to write a paper about is available pre-completed online)

Isn't the whole idea behind the independent party to create a party to get around the "mainstream politicians". No sense! As soon as the independents start thinking they are better than the rest, they will become the rest. First convince the contractors. They are the ones who design/implement/maintain the equipment and software. If they say, hey, it will be cheaper to do it this way, THEN the gov't reps will go for it. I work in DoD contracting and you really ought to get the contractors informed.

Although I realize that teachers in the NE are generally paid more (due to the Unions) I come from a long line of teachers (some moved to the NE to make more), anywhere else in the country they are GROSSLY underpaid. They are generally better educated than most execs, but make less than a third of the salary.

How are these poor people supposed to teach kids who don't want to and aren't motivated at home to learn?

Look to the parents not the poor, abused teachers!

My linux machine runs on a Pentium 233MHz, no sweat. I didn't have to pay for it and schools probably wouldn't either. You pay for the services, not the OS or the GUI's.

Macs are a great option. And kids can still be taught UNIX on Mac OS X.

Reason not to use Macs? My mom is a teacher and has to have her handheld when using a PC. My 13 year old brother is the same way.

Linux and Macs are both great options. Maybe which is better depends on the individual schools?

I have been to 4 Universities at this point in my life, and only 2 of them have had a focus on educting the students. It is really sad, but true. Most profs at big universities are looking at the research they are doing, and pay very little attention to the students. The few that do usually don't get plagerized papers bc the students have a connection to the professor, and want to do a good job on their own for that professor. I don't know where you get off!! The money is out there, and every high school counselor can help you look for it! Counselors at most colleges (if they are willing to take the time) can also help you find it! As a last resort there is always student loans, which means they don't come due until you are out of school, so you have to be sure you can get a job with that degree (like a philosophy degree... what can you do with that?)

And those countries where University is free... they don't except just anyone, you HAVE to have MONEY to give, or be quite intellectually competitive. In fact, those schools tend to have the LEAST economically deverse groups (as recently seen in Germany) because the kids that come from wealthy neighborhoods get a better education, and so are more likely to get into University. In the mean time, the poor stay uneducated.

At least in America EVERYONE has the opportunity at higher learning, they just have to be willing to work harder for it! This is still considered the land of opportunity for a very good reason!

Not being in "the clique" is one of the biggest obstacles I face, as well as age descrimination, sex descrimination, etc.

I frequently do work for which someone else receives the credit, and am grilled harder for slight infractions than anyone else. I am not the only one to face these issues where I work, but we all have learned a number of things:

    1) Your boss is busy trying to get along with everyone so that the job gets done most effciently, don't trust him.

    2) Your boss has to save his own ass too, and his boss is the one that holds the ax on that.

    3) Don't trust ANYONE. Acquaitances yes, friendships will take longer to develop. Work is work, social time is social time. KEEP THEM SEPERATE!!!
