Try making a supercomputer using NT, i'm sure using Linux would be *a lot* easier, i find NT much harder to set up properly then Linux (without reading big fat books).
corel installed without doing anything really. thats all good and dandy, but lots of devices didn't work and i had to set them up by hand (not that i'm not used to that), but i don't see the point of making the install so user friendly if a windows user is just gonna choke once they try to use it, i'm sure these problems will be addressed in later versions (no other distro really has any good device setup either). and the kernel they shipped with was unstable and locked up when i tried to use their corel update software so i couldn't download recent kernel source easily/compilers (no it doesn't ship with gcc), had to compile it on my other debian box and transfer it over. but overall it was pleasant, i changed the apt sources and upgraded it to potato:)
Why would you buy such a non-upgradable computer in the first place if you were just gonna hack it to bits, not like you'd buy the imac for its speed or its price (both suck), but probably for its looks.
I got my Father to install Corel linux on his computer today, he installed it perfectly, it booted up.. yada yada.. worked nice. tried to setup ethernet didn't work.. i had a look. it didn't have support for his ethernet compiled into kernel and it was not loading the via-rhine module, i don't know what the point of the nice fancy install is if there is no way to graphically install devices.. and of course sound doesn't work and i had to install the nvidia X server by hand.. and i cannot use corel update cuase their ftp servers are full.. AND i had to compile a new kernel becuase when i clicked the "update" button in corel update the box totaly froze. odd. anyways it looks like its off to a good start for emulating windows:P, i'm looking forward to progress on this distribution and so is my Father.
Is this possible? I'd like to play quake1/2/3 in linux at a decent speed. IE: not the current GLX.. and don't really want to wait for the XF4.0 DRI stuff.. is anyone coding mesa for TNT1/2?
I bought a computer from a local dealer.. www.microbiz.net here in vancouver canada. And i bought it without an OS with no hassle. he asked do you wan't windows98? i said no. And he knows its going to be a linux box. So he didn't charge me.. and also a couple other dealers around here have no problem selling without the OS.. is this a canada thing?
Yaya but that was there in 3.3.3.. just wondering if has changed.. the Trio3D can't be much different then the other trios.. so whats takin so long? =( meanwhile i'll pout in win98

http://glx.on.openprojects.net
you can do direct rendering with matrox and rage pro cards already with xfree 3.3.5
I'm sure it works, but 3D support? Not likely.
Sourceforge would be a great place to host a big quake coding project, free web/ftp/cvs/email-lists and more. Its cool :)
Whats so hard about entering your horizontal and vertical frequencies? xf86config does everything else.

Would this by any chance have support for the S3 Trio3D in XF86_S3 or XF86_SVGA ?? :\
