  1. Re:Great for the wealthy I suppose on Argentines Sidestep Cash With E-Banking · · Score: 1

Who needs a computer to do electronic funds transfer? If Argentinia is anything like Australia, all you need to do is use your bank account card in virtually any store. You swipe it through the machine and enter your PIN. The money is transferred from your account to the merchant's.

  2. A machine for the masses on Bridging the Digital Divide with Linux · · Score: 2, Interesting
Why do people think a basic user should be running Linux on their desktop? A lot of people don't even have much comprehension of Microsoft Windows or Mac OS, that runs of the computer they have. People who don't even have a computer would find Linux a lot harder to use than either of those two commercial operatings systems.

What a lot of people want is a machine where they don't really need to get help. What they want is something that is about as complicated, or even easier, than programming a VCR.

Driving is a right. Driving on state funded roads is a privilege.

I sometimes see it in that obtaining a driver's license is the same as entering into a contract with the state which allows you to drive on the public roads, so long as you abide by the rules. Like any contract, failure to abide by the rules can incur penalties.

There is a difference between Japan and places like the USA. Japanese tend to commute on public transport. Americans usually drive their car. This allows the Japanese to do other things while commuting, like reading, surfing the net. All I can do while driving is talk to a friend on the phone.
