  1. Elektron's Manual for the SidStation on RTFM = Read the Funny Manual? · · Score: 1

The manual for the sidstation is one of the few that I've read that was informative, easy to read, and amusing. They talk about keeping the sidchip away from explosions, heat, etc. If you havn't checked it out, please do. One of the coolest synths on the market, if a little difficult to program. http://www.sidstation.com/ The machinedrum is pretty groovy too, also by elektron.

  2. .ORG's rule. :) on Do You Like Your Job? · · Score: 1

I work for a non-profit organization, and I must say, the quality of the workplace is top notch. I've worked for startups and .com's before and they can't begin to touch the feel of the .orgs. Perhaps it's the do-good nature of the organization, perhaps not, but the people are great and management is open to suggestions. :)

  3. Re:But most *can* run Linux on Recycling Vintage Alphas with Debian · · Score: 1

Last I checked MILO was no longer being supported. I would recommend aboot via SRM instead. Sure, not as pretty as MILO, but it will get the job done, and it doesn't require nasty flashes. I almost wrecked my firmware with milo *shudders*

  4. Re:not all alphas are created equal on Recycling Vintage Alphas with Debian · · Score: 1

All alpha's ARE created equal. The firmware is flashable by using a bootable disk. You can go to the old digital archives (on compaq's site I believe) and get the newest version of SRM for your box. Create a disk with the firmware as per the directions, and you can flash it back to what it should be. Once that is done, get *ugh* debian, or you can get a slackware alpha distrib, install that, and you should be good to go. Mind you, you will have to setup a bsd partition map if you want to boot from the harddisk, and make sure to offset any partitions by about 5-10 megs. I have an AlphaStation with an ev45 processor. It's been up running linux for many moons. -jared

  5. Re:Uhh..naming? on Intel's Answer to AMD's Hammer - Yamhill · · Score: 2, Insightful

I would agree that it is cool. Yamhill is just outside of Portland, Oregon. It's not the most exciting place, but it's pretty.... *GRIN* It's nice to see a company using unique names for products. Hammer, Spike... roll over.. Spot! -jp

  6. Spymac & their reputation on Apple PDA? · · Score: 1

They said the IPod was supposed to be a pda too. They even had pictures... Imho Spymac is a site of lies created by people with WAY too much time on thier hands... Besides. It's too ugly. Apple would never release something unless it was functional AND cute...

  7. Re:Life in Oregon on Who Wants To Be An Oregonian? · · Score: 1

I've lived in Oregon all my life. Perhaps we are backward, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Not everyone here is crazy and we take a slow pace and savor the moment. Our forests are beautiful, our oceanside is nice.. even if you can't stand swimming in it (too cold), and we have a diverse population. We do have a funky dmv, and perhaps the news is bad. Tv is a waste of your time anyway. Just my 1/2cent. :)
