Fortunately, the bigger the business, the more a slashdot article like this can screw them up when they step out of line. I know that I for one am not planning on shopping with them any more.
All the EB's I've been to log the ID of the person, just in case something like this happens.
It's possible that this store did not (which would be why the thief thought they would be a safe place)... but that in itself is illegal from what I understand.
Sadly, it doesnt matter if they DID log the ID. We already know who the thief was.. EB sinply doesn't care.
So they buy stolen goods without checking.
They dont hold it forthe required 15 days.
They then refuse to reimburse the person for the goods they illegally sold.
They refuse to return the goods (without pay)
that they unknowingly receaved through illegal channels.
I was under the impression that in a case like this, EB should be returning the goods and seeking restitution from the thief, while the person who's property was stolen gets their goods back from EB.
Of course, I'm no lawyer, but that's only common sense.
It's a revolution in portable computers! Think about it! All you need is an excellent cooling system and a really fast hard disk and there you have it! Laptops that move on their own!
I think, if it works, you could say its "star trek in action". But not a warp field. Its one of the gravity generators. Think about it. You have a disk spining at insainly high speeds balanced just right.. While reading teh article it reminded me imensly of an artificial gravity generator used in starships
Of course Microsofts settlement is going to get them money. Do you think ANY company would work to undermine its own cash flow? Microsofts practices, though irritating, and possibly illegal, are unfortunately also what could be called "brillient planning". And the closer they come the reaching a decision in reguards to the antitrust sute, the more money I think they'll go for before they lose. This means more XP like products we'll ahve to deal with in the future. Unless ofcourse, you just avoid Microsoft all together...
Actually, from waht I've seen, open source created by knowledgable programers seems to be of better quality than comercial software. This is probably because commercial software companies are motivated by money and deadlines and, for the most part, open source writers seen to be motivated by either:
(1) The enjoyment of it,
or
(2) The desire for an alternative program that fills programers needs better than what is currently on the market.
Contrary to what your comment seemed to say, just because its open sourced doesn't mean that the people making it are "worse" than a comercial company. Many open source programers actually work for big time companies.
You mean you actually LISTENED when XP told you easy CD creater 4 wouldn't work? I just installed it any way. So far, I've only had 1 problem with it on XP: I have 1 mp3 that I am unable to burn to CD out of the many I have for some strange reason. It keeps telling me that I dont have licenst to copy that 1 MP3 (even though I bought the album, and all of the other tracks are just fine...)
Aside from that annoyence, it runs perfectly on my comp.
Ok, first of all, if you're a highschool student, sitting infront of a computer for days at a time, not bathing, etc.. Then 1) you have parents taht arent doing their jobs. They're supposed to raise you, show you life, and unplug the box if it gets out of hand. I'm sorry, but "he just wont leave the computer" is bull. For the most part, parents have much more power than that. 2) It's probably better than what he WOULD be doing if he were off the comp. when someones life is that messed up, its not the computergames fault. Soemthing else was going on, and that was a safe excape tool. he could have joined a gange or started drugs instead.
I don't think that it's a true addiction, but I have seen people who have taken gaming to the level of obsession. The difference between addictions and gaming obsessions is that with obsessions, the only withdrawl effects are irritability and really REALLY wanting to know how it ends. Kind of like a compulsive reader. I'm sure you know people who pick up a book, and can't put it down for anything until it's finished? Some of them read a couple of 300 page books a day. I remember reading the whole Wheel of Time series (when there were only 7 books) in a week and a half. I don't see anyone calling those people addicts. I think this is just another attempt to put a limit on videogames.
There are already are theories as to how the universe came into being... the problem is that most people who believe in them are debunked as unscientific
That would be nice... aslong as it's not a buggy port. Otherwise, it could just make windows users thing, "My God, this is a mess", and never touch it again.
now, if that happened, future scientists would find the dite site and use it to prove that computers, cell phones, and cars existed during the bronze age
Web browsers give you the same info for free..

You can only fire while in a relaxed state.

Reread his comment.. I think that was kind of his point...

"If you stop calling us a monopoly, we promise to grow bigger"
Wait.. that could also be seen as a threat...
now, if that happened, future scientists would find the dite site and use it to prove that computers, cell phones, and cars existed during the bronze age
Um.. the videogame is FF7, and his name is "Cloud Strife", not Clad. At least in america. Oh well, like I said, it's probably just a language thing
