Here's an idea that's been dancing around in my head. Let me see if I can make sense of it. Basically, I'm thinking of a program that would allow people to produce custom edits of DVD's. It would depend on someone owning the actual DVD for the video, but could import audio tracks (for commentary) and tracking scenes (for custom edits).
In essence, you end up with a little script that tells the end user which audio track to play when and where to "drop the laser" on the video. No explicit IP problems that I can think of.
Part of me resents this being modded as a troll. How can we have an on topic discussion today when all the topics are make believe? I guess I'll just play along. Silly me.
It would be interesting to see an "eBay style" of advertising, especially on Google. Advertisers would have the opportunity to see openly what other advertisters were bidding and for what sort of placement. They could then decide whether or not to bid up. A new advertiser steps up with a higher bid? Goodbye to the old bidder. Not enough impact from your bid? Reduce or retrace your bid. Of course Google could set minimum bids to cover their costs, or spark interest.
The next step would be for Google to step up and show users exactly what each advertiser was paying for each user's mindshare.
Not ready for prime time.

In my opinion the watch needs two key features before it can be succesful.
1. The ability to track my house so I can find my way back home.
2. An ugly girl detector, so the previous feature doesn't allow me to make it home with the wrong girl.
Congrats, yours was the first of many anecdotal posts. I've been running 2.4.XP for quite some time now and it's been stable as a house, save for the occasional power outage.
1. If you look on Apple's page now, they've got a link to the Time article.
2. Apple moved the keynote speech at the last minute.
3. It wasn't *just* the website, Time magazine was on newsstands bright and early this morning.
Taken together, I'm theorizing that Apple agreed to have Time put together their little fluff piece and let them be first out the gate. Unfortunately, it looks like someone realized at the last minute that Time magazine was set to hit stands a day ahead of the announcement...but it was too late to pull the issues from the presses. So Apple hastily moves the keynote and some person at Time Canada made a little bit of an additional booboo, based on the article being the lead on that day's printed issue. Just a thought.
As a further precautionary method, whenever you speak to someone on the phone, speak in a muffled voice. You might also want to give yourself a cool nickname, like "Condor".
I've been wonderin when I'll be able to log into Slashdot with my Passport. I'm nervous about the linky thing with my password right there in the open!

Perharps there would be if this were a real news site.
It wasn't funny last year, it's not funny this year and it won't be funny next year. These guys are dorks, not comedians, and they should act as such.
He's right. I just went and re-watched from beginning to end and there's not even a HINT of Jar-Jar in The Professional.

Figure it out Mr. Scietists and sign me up!
Quite frankly, I am disturbed by John Romero.

I didn't think /. pulled dupe's. Isn't that part of the fun?

Hashing? I don't think getting high qualifies as "responsible".
