  1. Apples have long shelf lives on Consumers Buy Less Tech Stuff, Keep It Longer · · Score: 1

Before switching to Apple, I was going through a PC laptop every 12 months. My MacBook Pro is going on three years and I really have no need to upgrade despite the allure of the new models. It's not hard to see many older MacBook models floating around. I wonder how much of the increased shelf life is due to the increase in Apple switchers?

  3. The knees are still jerking on US Secrecy Efforts Hurting Scientific Research · · Score: 5, Insightful

It is quite obvious that the US government is trying to keep America on terrorist alert for as long as they can. By having the "terrorists" disrupting the American way of life in every area possible, ensures public support for the Bush war effort.

    This is overkill!

  4. Steering is enough for me. on Radio-Controlled Microcar Review · · Score: 1

It would be cool to have a car with good steering capabilities...no motor-drive. They would be fun to engineer stunts like the ones we used to make with Hotwheels cars, ramps, and declines.

  5. Dangerous to the eco-system? on Mining Metals Using Plants and Trees? · · Score: 1

If spraying our forests and fields wasn't enough, we are going to unleash plants that can extract dangerous compounds from the earth, for our animals to later eat?

  7. Major conflict of interest on Security as a Profit Center? · · Score: 2, Interesting

Microsoft is at a conflict of interest and as an end-user, I am not impressed.

We all know how secure MS products are. By having MS consult in areas of security, there would be no motivation for MS to make their products more secure. Also, what stops MS from deliberately leaving holes in it's software to have its security consultants patch them up later?

  8. Bush loves the idea! on Laptop Fuel Cells Approved For Air Carriage · · Score: 1, Funny

Anything that is powered by oil will be quickly approved as long as Bush is in office, no matter how dangerous.

  9. Having their cake...and eating it too. on Kazaa And Exportation of U.S. Copyright Laws · · Score: 1

No wonder the USA wants no part in the International Court. When you can bully any nation into giving up their citizens to be tried in US courts, what use is the International Court to the US?

  10. Europe has aging infrastructure on CDMA, Cell Phone Standards And Who "Wins" · · Score: 1, Interesting

Another reason for Europe's efforts to have GSM the sole format in the continent was because of aging infrastructure. Many countries such as Italy have decided that it is more feasible to go wireless than to take on the expensive process of laying more cable. Also, by laying cable, you damage the beauty of some of the oldest cities by digging up the ground or erecting above-ground lines.

In North America, our cities are young, and they were designed with having data lines in them. Also, our cities are not as cramped as some of the older cities in Europe.

When North America was experimenting with cell phone technology, Europe was trying to embrace it as a means of alleviating their communication dilemma. This is why Europe pushed so hard at establishing the GSM standard for the continent.

  11. Digital cameras have bad latency on Digital Camera Quality Passing Film? · · Score: 1

II had the opportunity to take some pictures of my friend playing soccer a couple of weeks ago, and I found out how challenging it was to photograph sports action. A gentleman nearby was taking pictures with a brand-new Nikon digital camera. He was having a much harder time than me, because all of his pictures were a split second behind the action. In fast action, a split second lag is a lifetime.

Digital camera will take the crown for still photography soon, if it has not yet, but film will be king in action photography until digital cameras can process their images faster.

  12. Re:But which point of view? on Napster: The Movie · · Score: 5, Insightful

What complicates matters is that the movie is being aired on MTV. If it was aired on a non-music network, we could all imagine that the point of view would be to support the "hurting" music/media industry. But what will MTV do? Half of their success is based on music that is created by the music industry. The other half is based on those who listen to the music, most of them opposed to the RIAA. It would be great if MTV could find a middle ground, explain the situation, and let the viewer decide who is right or wrong, hero or enemy.

  13. It can be done on Simpsons on the Silver Screen · · Score: 1, Redundant

Beavis and Butthead Do America was absolutely hilarious and their weekly show wasn't even a full 22 minutes. I'm sure the Simpsons' crew can come up with something just as funny.
