Even if not, there are a lot of other things that *aren't* under the LGPL essential to any Linux system. It wouldn't be practical to work around these, as I'm sure Tivo knows.
Security only updates are backports to the same version you're running. Updating packages flagged by GLSA gets you both security *and* feature updates, which may be incompatible, requiring maintenance.
If you want an up to date distro, Gentoo is pretty good. If you want an unchanging API, it isn't.
I've never had trouble booting Knoppix, and I've thrown it into a lot of random systems. It performs a hell of a lot better than than a plain XP install, especially since you have to pull shenanigans to even get the boot disk won't even recognize the disk controller on modern systems.
You've claimed to associate with a group of people I have directly observed as being asshats. That isn't stereotyping any more than assuming participants in a white power rally are racist. Like it or not, the people you associate with reflect upon you.
You'll note that I did not call you an asshat, I simply pointed out the implications of your actions. The fact that you drop to ad hominems at the slightest provocation ads further weight to the implication.
The only unfortunate part is that for web searches, Google's spell checking is purely statistical, if a majority (or even just a "large number") of people spell the word incorrectly, Google corrects to that incorrect spelling of the word. You could argue that google *isn't* incorrect in that case, it's the dictionary which is out of date.

I don't know what GBS is, and I have no interest in reading anything on somethingawful.com. I've seen people claiming to be goons from somethingawful make asses of themselves in many venues, which does not reflect well on the site.
From what I've seen, goons are childish, rather stupid, and expect to get their way without question. When they don't, they throw a destructive hissy fit and storm out. There are occasionally one or two mildly sapient individuals who direct a crap flood of mongoloid script kiddies.

There's no provision requiring the copier to have bought an original copy. It's perfectly legal for your friends to borrow your cds and copy them. Given that it's impossible to prove who actually made the copy, yes it is legal for you to do the copying.
Further, it's perfectly legal to make a backup copy for your own use and ask your friends to store it for you.
Gentoo is great for one off systems for people who aren't intimidated by having to piece things together by themselves. It makes a great dev workstation. Alternatively, it's a good meta-distro for producing a build tree for a specific purpose.
It's absolutely terrible as a general purpose distro where you want low maintenance and security only updates.
At least NPCs never message you with "gold pls" or blindly invite random people twice their level to groups. It's *much* easier to police bad behaviour in a 3 digit population than a 5 digit one. In fact, the latter is pretty much impossible.
The "no warranty" part would be valid for the end user.
What if the farmer's neighbour buys these seeds? They won't respect property lines.
Besides, Paint meets all my needs.
You mean people actually buy photoshop?
Will there not be an LGPLv3?

Even if Linux doesn't go GPL3, presumably they're using a lot of GNU userspace stuff, like glibc.

Circuit city and Dell are in the retail sector, and that article doesn't say who at Motorola is getting canned. It could be marketing for all we know.

Knoppix and other livecd based distros do pretty much the same thing.
Is Will Wright going to show more spore?
You've just proven my point for me.

You right click on the misspelt word and select from a list.
You can still criticize it for having the vocabulary of an illiterate mongoloid hooked on ebonics, if that makes you feel better.
Skin colour is not a choice. Associating with asshats is a choice, and implies that you are also an asshat.
Which is why I would never claim to be Rix from slashdot...

Conversation over.
The very quote in the grandparent supports what I said. Note that the right to make personal copies is not limited to the owner of the original.

I responded to the wrong post.
Google "private copying" and you should find what you're looking for.
