  1. Understanding Steve Oedekerk = High Strung on Review: Kung Pow · · Score: 1

I would recommend seeing "High Strung" and maybe "Thumb Wars" or the "Ace Ventura" movies, then making a judgment on "Kung Pow". Put the movie in the context it should be in and maybe you won't think it's that bad...

But if you do nothing else, see "High Strung"... it's worth it.

  2. Business practices are related here too.... on Security Community Reacts to Microsoft Announcement · · Score: 2, Insightful

How can a company hope to achieve "a whole new level of Trustworthiness in computing" if they don't have an ounce of trustworthiness in their own business and political practices? Some may argue that this is a whole other subject, but personally I think that a company with real ethics will perform leagues above in the field of security, bug-fixes and general product improvement.

"Two wrongs don't make a right, but three lefts do" - Quoted from 'fortune -m lefts' Offtopic, I know, but /. is for people who get a kick out of the fortune program, so I had to share. And, slightly more on topic, what would you consider a viable method for trying to shift consumer thinking so as not to mislead them? Or would you not consider this a worthy goal?

As you said, they need to more widely accepted here in the states. They are a very useful tool, very affordable, and yet we ignore them (for the most part) or label them as a "geek tool". American's have a serious problem accepting new technology, and until we get over it we're always going to be one step behind. I personally think the problem is greed more than anything else... Gasoline powered cars and Franklin panners; welcome to America, land of non-innovation!

:) I'm at work right now (Product development manager), the longest part of my hair is about 1.5 inches and I'm married.... but perhaps you're not especially familiar with the caliber of person that uses linux (hint: you are obviously not of this caliber).

  6. Best distro??? on Linux at the Library? · · Score: 3, Insightful

What if there were a distro just for libraries, perhaps one especially suited to people that have never installed linux and have no outside help? Perhaps even a special "trial" distro that installed onto a virutal drive under windows and then let them boot into linux from the desktop. (running in full-blown linux, of course, not some VM env.).

I know these things are all out there, but not in an all-inclusive distro...

Perhaps more people need to be making distros, or participating in making the existing ones easier to use for the rest of the world (personally, I'll stick with Slackware).
