Yeah, but what if he *mixes* CDDL and GPL code? Which is the case, as far as I can tell.
What happens is that noone except him can legally distribute binaries *at all*. Also, it's pretty unclear that he owns all the code under the GPL, thus it's very uncertain if he an even legally distribute the combination himself.
In short - in order to steer clear of potential copyright infringement, Debian had to fork.
Yes, the users of the Microsoft have lost the freedom to modify, fix bugs or security issues, or port the code to a different platform.
GPL is about the freedom of the *users*. And your scenario is a perfect example where the end user does lose freedom. I'm not against BSD, but I want us to be clear what freedoms we are talking about.
I don't think grip supports musicbrainz... only freedb.

I just now remembered what I did once, quite a while ago:
I recorded some of my (difficult-to-find) LPs to.wav, burned them to CD using gcdmaster, and ripped them to OGG, only to find that the ripping program actually guessed *correctly* the album and the titles of all the included songs.
Note that even though I marked the beginning and end of each song manually, it still found the right titles. freedb really rocks!
Ehm... the Precision M90 already exists, and is more or less identical (except for the casing) to the M1710, and it comes with the *amazing* Quadro FX 2500M, which is an OpenGL-enhanced GeForce Go 7900 GTX...
While I agree that seeing a technical comparison would be nice, I hope you don't expect that to help you *at all* when it comes to guessing which format will come out on top.
If the VHS/Betamax story told us anything, it was that the technological differences matter little, and market traction is the deciding factor. (Well, at least as long as the technologies are on approx. the same level and price...).
Should have been released March 22, but has since been delayed. No one has said for how long.

Me? Buy Sony? Surely you jest, madame? That will be quite a while...
I wonder, though... Isn't it a bit much to be simple marketing, like getting Linux pre-installed?
Mind you, I'm not getting a PS3 anyway.

They are planning to make more money off of you in some way, don't ever doubt that.
Yeah, but maybe they could think about doing that by pleasing their customers, eh?
While I see your point, I hope you are wrong:-)

One cannot help but wonder if the CD copy protection disaster has taught them something. Look at the MP3 download compensation they offered, and now this.
I talked to a "Dell Account Manager" at Intel, who informed me that in the Dell Inspiron 9400, VT was switched off using a BIOS switch, but that it could be manually turned on. It will be turned on by default later. This is what he said:
"The processors technically support it, but neither Dell nor intel have activated it yet. We are working to get the ecosystem ready before turning it on. Officially we are saying it will be enabled in 1H'06"
"Good news. Through the BIOS, you can turn VT on with the Inspiron 9400 immediately. Just purchase a Intel Core T2300 cpu or higher."
I think we need to drop them an e-mail suggesting that the page needs updating:)
Well, every few months or so I pick one of the distributions listed here, check if they really use Xfree86 (they usually don't) and send them a mail pointing out that their name is used in XFree86 marketing. The distro name usually disappears a few weeks after....

That would be stealing the *CD*, not the music. Now, stealing music would be more like doing what this sheriff is trying to do, but illegally.
I don't know how I would do that, however...
No, it's only about 210 days (Dec 15, *2005*, the story has it wrong).
So about 527 million dollars.
?? I recorded using snd, burned to CD-R using gcdmaster, and ripped that to OGG using grip. Only the last step introduces file metadata.

Why not build a complete maze full of traps?
That would be something for future Indiana Jones to conquer.

Generally, yes, in Sweden, no. According to a recent law (last July), downloading without a license is also illegal. Thus Piratpartiet.
This law is supposed to be an implementation of a EU directive, so it will be "interesting" to see what the other countries make of it...

Ahh, that makes better sense.
Well, actually, it was written in 1949. That doesn't invalidate your point, though....
And do you really think you would have been worse off with Blair than with Bush? ;-)
