Well, don't forget that Microsoft is only able to create those profits because the government granted them temporary market monopoly (copyrights)... It's a trade - something(copyrights) for something(taxes).
Of course dailykos runs stories like these - the stated mission goal of the site is to "get the democrats elected". And if you are trying to convince the people to vote for the Blue Team you can not tell them at the same time that the voting process itself is suspect. The same sort of denial/damage control was there after the 2004 elections.
Oh, Klaus can surely follow the math. Saw him talking about one year ago on higher education reform and he was complaining there "These humanist educated people don't think in derivations!" and took a chalk and started drawing graphs on the blackboard... (I'm not kidding).
No, they buckled at the first sign of Anthrax in their offices. Do you even remember that? Conveniently mailed to congress during passage of the Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act. Strange no suspect was ever found... One (as a non-US citizen) would believe that given country should go full strength after someone who is after their own legislature.
Here in the Czech Republic there are both options available. Either you can buy locked subsidized phone with two year contract - starting from $1/22 for the simplest phone. Or you can go to any shop you like, buy unsubsidized unlocked phone and get separate service from any operator you like.
Let me quote from a year old article "I'm with wolfowitz" by George Monbiot which was printed in The Guardian.
But this surely illustrates the unacknowledged paradox in neocon thinking. They want to drag down the old, multilateral order and replace it with a new, US one. What they fail to understand is that the "multilateral" system is in fact a projection of US unilateralism, cleverly packaged to grant other nations just enough slack to prevent them from fighting it. Like their opponents, the neocons fail to understand how well Roosevelt and Truman stitched up the international order. They are seeking to replace a hegemonic system that is enduring and effective with one that is untested and (because other nations must fight it) unstable. Anyone who believes in global justice should wish them luck.
It surprises me how many americans go such length to explain actions of their goverment. Reminds me of my father who grew up during Communist rule in my country. Always tries to find a "positive spin" explanation for goverment actions. Echelon anyone?
Can anyone explain me how can I trust OSS running box more than the one running closed software? How can I verify that the software running in the box is the same I verified? How can I be sure the cpu isn't mangled by some foreign goverment? (Since most hw is now made on taiwan..)
What's wrong with paper ballots?
I've noticed recently the trend to put the word "technology" wherever it is possible, i guess it mostly comes from marketing people, but does it really have be on/. too? Wouldn't be a title "New Uses for LCDs" just enough?
If drug manufacturing was open market (like in case of generics) there would be no need for samples for low-income people in first place, as the market would push the price down.
Speaking of GTA, do you remember in GTA:Vice city the ad in one of the radios - "petsovernight.com" ? I always wondered how many people have visited that site...
Well, in a free market companies compete by lowering their costs. GPL based companies (like RedHat) do precisely that. That's why I'd dare to say GPL is capitalistic.
Actually there's something else I wondered when I first read this section - does it grant power to build roads/barriers BETWEEN individual US states or even within them?
Just one great example Opinion Polls: Getting the results you want from the magnificent british show "Yes, Prime Minister"

But how do you then move different images to different virtual desktops?

Actually, the cost was around $800M when they landed, now add few tens of $M for mission extensions.

Btw, it should be noted that Cray has something very similar in their Cray XD1 - http://www.cray.com/products/xd1/acceleration.html But the virtex is connected via their proprietary interconnect.
Actually, this is sometimes rather odd - shipping from amazon.com to Czech Republic (where I live) is actually cheaper than from amazon.co.uk ...
Actually, I've noticed that too - that many people just can't grasp the meaning of a pointer. Do you have any idea why is that?

Hmm... isn't this precisely the situation which GPL3 tries to prevent and Linus does not care about?

Yeah, that's precisely why XD1 has not only 12 opterons, but 6 FPGAs too. Which can be used for various kinds of specialised stuff.
But but... the proposed OWL by ESA is even bigger! It should be 100m in diameter if everything goes well ESA OWL site
No, the real problem are patents and patented organisms in general...
That depends on libc implementation. glibc for example uses mmap() for bigger allocations - therefore is able to return the freed memory to the OS.

When I've seen the BSG miniseries for the first time my first thought was "voyager-should-have-been".
