You are confusing the money that is "made" on the net with the money that was squandered, stolen, laundered, etc on the Dot Bombs. And yes having one company in control of the internet would be bullshit.
A) Not trying to change the past, trying to help the future be done correctly by having innovation and competition, and while where at it how about punishment for ill-gotten gains?
B) If they don't do something to force them to change their business practices, they will continue as they have. What would follow would be a continuation of the stifling of innovation and progress in computer technology that has sucked many usefull years out of the industry already.
Oh, BTW, time is not what took care of IBM. IBM took care of IBM, with a little help from all around(MS included). But they are doing just fine. No chance really of MS putting them down like say, a Stac or DR-DOS. So eventually they will get to see Billy Boy and his pet monkey eat crow.
>>with the obvious "consistency" constraint that >>it may not - by force or fraud - prevent others >>from excercising the same right with _their_ >>property).
Hmmmm...
Stac, Netscape, Java, Dr-DOS... need I say more??
Actually Enron, the Government, MS, Union Carbide, IBM, (insert additional large corps here) are very similar. They will all eventually fall. You see a Roman Empire anywhere on this planet?
Thank you for that un-abashed replication of MS FUD. Quick question if I may? Are most astroturfingmsapologists like yourself a) MS Stockholders b) Paid MS contractors c)justplainoldfuckingclueless./readers
Microsoft sign their own corporate death warrant? Probably wont happen. However it would actually be very beneficial to the US and the world. Oh, but first, the fine for their violation of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act(tried, convicted, upheld on appeal), $36B, thank you.
WOW!!!! A genuine US Gov/Corporation Apologist/Zealot. I'm a US citizen and I find your rhetoric offensive. I would ask you how you manage to look at yourself in the mirror each morning but I realize that given the rhetoric that your spewing, you are probably pretty smug with yourself.
You seem to be confused, let me clarify for you. MS, a company convicted of abusing its desktop OS monopoly in violation of the Sherman Anti-trust Act, has held the Desktop OS market(and through that leverage a large portion of the computer industry) hostage for many, many years. Maintaining, increasing, or leveraging that power to hijack the internet is not a battle or a war they can win. You are correct in your comment about there not being a War or a Battle between Microsoft and Linux. One anology I can think of to describe this non-war is Microsoft is engaged in a valiant attempt at one-hand clapping.
heheh. Red Carpet == Ximian but apt != Red Hat. But I'm sure that is a typo on your part cause you are a regular Linux user, and not some paid astrotrufer who just happens to read this mesage board a lot as part of their job, right?

Uggghhh. This crap could make me barf up my wonton soup.
Letting many companies do what they have done and allowing them to continue conducting business in the US is wrong. Unfortunately corruption in government, corruption in general for that matter, is not a new thing. You see a ways back companies where given the same rights as individual people, baaaddd move.
1)Convicted criminals are generally not allowed to keep any of their ill gotten gains.
2)Make no mistake that an individual that is convicted of a crime comparable to MS is going to go to jail for a while.
3)Following your logic that what MS did is "Called Business", and that makes it ok,excusable, or they should only be punished a little: IBM should be completely blameless for all of it's pollution and poor working conditions in several of it's drive manufacturing plants that did a lot of damage to many people and the environment, Union Carbide should be totally blameless for Bhopal, India, all investigation of Enron should cease(theres a good study for someone, compare the losses attributable to MS with the losses from Enron, see which is bigger), companies should be allowed to continue the same accounting and business practices that got Enron in trouble, etc..etc.
I sure hope your a paid MS astoturfer and that isn't really how you feel. If it is I really feel sorry for you.
Yeah, and just amagine what they might do to any MCSE's that they see commenting against them. I would have already mailed them my actual certificate back to them with a present in it, but I cant seem to find it:)
Yes the constitution can be amended, interpreted, ignored etc. But please don't be suprised if at some point, because of to much change to that constitution, or extremely numerous occasions where it is trampled on by the people sworn to uphold it, some diverse groups of people, normally of a very moral and conscientious nature resort to drastic measures to defend the ideals that the constitution embodies.
If so, that just means that everybody else in the US can 'forfeit' their rights
No just convicted monopolists that should not have the power over politicians, courts, etc..that they do. The fact that corporations should not have the same rights as people period.. Well thats a whole nother topic.
And to be sure the convicted monopolist will help them make those decision's. Also, you can be sure he will try and get his copy legislated as the one true XFree86. He may even eventually claim that he created it. Funny though, how easily the GPL stops stuff like that.
Bingo!! Wish I was uber enough to have mod points :)
