  1. They _are_ replacable on Digital Dark Ages? · · Score: 3, Insightful

Maybe it's just me, but whenever it looks like a harddrive is about to die (funny noises, etc. or just getting old) we replace it before it does. Also, we back up critical information, often in more than once place. This sort of practice should, in thoery, prevent this from happening. These things are replacable.

  2. The Queens Problem on Memorable Programming Assignments? · · Score: 1

We did this in Java, so the output looked pretty, but it was relatively easy, and I had a lot of fun doing it. The idea is to find solutions that would place N queens on an NxN board.

    Here's My Queens Program.

Also, I enjoyed the pegs program a lot, although we were stretched for time on this one.

    Here's My Pegs Program.

  3. Who are the "Music creators" again? on Lawsuit Challenges Copy-protected CDs · · Score: 1

"Music creators have the right to protect their property from theft, just like owners of any other property"

I find it interesting that they are referring to the major labels as "Music creators." I wonder how many artists are actaully supporting the idea of having their cd's protected, or if they are stuck with it because they already signed with the label. Seems to me an artist ought to be able to opt out of this, has anyone heard of any major groups doing this?

  4. My Experiance on Crack a Password, Save Norwegian History · · Score: 1

Once we had an old server, for which we needed the password to get some old data off of it. After spending a couple hours trying to track down the guy who would know what it was, I got bored and started trying different things. To my amusement, the first thing I tried worked. "password" How original. I wonder if they've tried that yet?
