The whole point of the flashlight is having to choose between seeing where you want to shoot, and being able to shoot there.
I'm going to have to agree. Doom 3's whole flashlight versus weapon gives the player a *constant* feeling of vulnerability. Makes the game fairly exciting in my opinion.
Then again, the people who complain about doom3 are the same people who are pissed off that IDKFA doesn't work.
Whats the rush? It's not like this is a new Pokémon card.
I beg to differ. Windows service packs are exactly like new pokemon cards.. their worth is dubious yet people have the strange urge to collect them all!
What's stopping other stores from selling their music in MP3 format? That plays on iPods just fine. Oh, the record labels won't license unless you use DRM? Well I don't really see how the record labels' policy is Apple's problem.
I'll tell you what the problem is. Because Apple is being stubborn about allowing people to create DRM'd AACs they're going to lose the format wars.
Then we're all going to be stuck with WMA because it's free to use, and MS is going to mop the floor with apple again.
This is definately apple's problem. The iPod isn't a sure thing. You think it's that difficult for someone else to come out with a device that works better than the iPod? It's only a matter of time.
Consumers are going to be given a choice between purchasing an iPod, which only works with Apple's store, or purchasing *anything else* which works with all the other stores. Apple will lose. Just like every other market Apple has ever tried to dominate.
So... Apple is now legally responsible for the decisions made by the RIAA? Interesting idea.
No, my point is that hipocrites should shut the hell up. They defend Apple's usage of DRM, saying that it's the RIAA's fault and if Apple could sell music without DRM they would. Then they turn around and say that if Virgin wants to compete, they should sell DRM-less music.
If they sold normal MP3 or AAC files, they would play perfectly on the iPod, and the customers were more pleased. So their claim that they could not sell songs "for the iPod" is absolutely ridiculous!
Why doesn't Apple sell normal MP3s or AAC files then? Oh that's right because the RIAA won't let them. Yet you expect Virgin to do the impossible?
Are they dominant in being able to play music you buy online? Not even that is true, since the percentage of PC's is so much larger than Macs.
But it is true. iTMS has a 70% marketshare (market being "legal online music downloads"). That means 70% of all legal music downloads require fairplay, and Apple refuses to license fairplay to anyone.
Man I loved that game, and I sucked at it! I used to play on my ][gs. I couldn't get past the apendectomy. The game didn't like my sutures or something.
But man, if I ever had to perform an emergency apendectomy, i could. Oh sure, you'd bleed to death later because aparently I can't sew, but at least you wouldn't die from apendicitis.
You can actually get the 64bit beta here... http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bit/ evaluatio n/upgrade.mspx
Actually, no you can't. They took it down for some reason. I really don't know why, it's been up there since february, but they took down the link 2 days ago and claim that it will be back up in "mid august".
While the 64-bit part may not seem to make that much of a difference, the other parts of the architecutre (like the 20+ extra general purpose registers) can make a large difference in some programs.
Obviously the P4 and Prescott both have SSE2, but no other AMD chip does... and some programs (ahem, Premiere) require SSE2. And neither the P4 or Prescott (or Athlon XP) have #1 or #2.
Are you sure? According to the Fedore Core x86_64 Release FAQ: Does this release support SATA? I am pleased to say that Fedora Core 2 includes enhanced SATA support, and most controllers from Promise, Via, and Silicon Image should work for installation. Sil was not supported with FC1
And here is a patch to 2.6.1 to support that chipset. Which is an older kernel.
every time I tried to compile a new kernel it failed horribly, even with the nice people on IRC helping me.
Houston we have a problem.
Might as well made a post about how you totally fucked over your windows install by making lots of changes in the registry, even with the nice people on IRC helping you.
I use Photoshop, 3ds max, and Premiere every day I go to work.
Premiere isn't a good example of "great software" anymore. It's slow, buggy and the latest version won't work on any Athlon XPs (only P4s and Athlon64s).
And what industry uses 3ds max? The television industry uses lightwave and the movie industry uses maya and softimage. The only people who use 3ds max are video game modders.
also, XP doesn't support my USB2 controller by default, so I have to plug in a PS/2 keyboard to install the drivers. I've never had linux not support my keyboard or mouse.
I know I'm not the only one who keeps a PS2 keyboard around just to install windows with.
I requested it dual-boot XP and the 64 bit version of fedora core 2. XP was no problem, but fedora didn't support the SATA chipset contained within the box
Which chipset is that? Fedore Core 2 supports my VIA SATA chipset and the Promise 20378 SATA RAID controller on my motherboard.
Sega made a hologram game that had similar gameplay mechanics to Dragon's Lair. Meaning you watched a scene, and then pressed a button or a direction at the right time. Only instead of a cartoon, it was a projected "save me Obi-wan, you're my only hope" style hologram.
Anyone remember what that game was called? It was pretty neat at the time.
This is one lie about OSX that drives me crazy. "It just works"... unless of course, it doesn't.
OSX just works if you don't use anything but a firewire drive and a usb camera. Try to use 3rd party hardware like a usb2.0 cdburner or a usb2.0 802.11g adaptor and you'll find that OSX just doesn't work.
I NEED my cell phone to be a cell phone. I don't want to stop my playlist so I can pick up a call!
What? First of all, a cellphone that plays mp3s would automagically pause your mp3 when you pick up a call. Secondly, why wouldn't you want this to happen? Are you one of those jerks who leaves the radio blaring when you answer the phone?
The whole point of the flashlight is having to choose between seeing where you want to shoot, and being able to shoot there.

Wouldn't it be more efficient to just burn humans for fuel?
Whats the rush? It's not like this is a new Pokémon card.
I beg to differ. Windows service packs are exactly like new pokemon cards.. their worth is dubious yet people have the strange urge to collect them all!
SP2 I choose you!

- Plateforme Windows (98 SE et supérieur)
Strange.. I've got linux.. what's the deal? Virgin must not think its superior to 98.

Yup. Here's 3 reasons to get an AMD64 chip.
1. On-Die memory controller.
2. HyperTransport.
3. SSE2
Obviously the P4 and Prescott both have SSE2, but no other AMD chip does... and some programs (ahem, Premiere) require SSE2. And neither the P4 or Prescott (or Athlon XP) have #1 or #2.
Silicon Image 3512. Still no support yet.

Would it be morally wrong to run Doom3 on a Mickey Mouse computer?
every time I tried to compile a new kernel it failed horribly, even with the nice people on IRC helping me.

MS has also pulled the 64bit XP trial until "mid-august".

it might be nice to get this for the Pismo line which can be a hair too slow for OS.X.
I have YDL running on my pismo, it works extremely well.
My biggest complaint about linux on PPC is there is absolutely no flash plugin available.
or 64bit it-just-works OSX?
... unless of course, it doesn't.
This is one lie about OSX that drives me crazy. "It just works"

Can any YDL advocates provide some insight as to why they prefer this over OSX?
It's scads faster than OSX. Scads I tell you!
but can MS afford it? Nintendo has a higher market value than Apple.. meaning it would be cheaper for MS to buy Apple than Nintendo.
I NEED my cell phone to be a cell phone. I don't want to stop my playlist so I can pick up a call!

But, in this case, it's pointless: there's no stable 64-bit version of windows.
800mhz FSB and CPU has direct access to RAM. You don't need a 64bit OS to take immediate advantage of the insane memory bandwidth offered by AMD64.
