Microsoft® makes source code to Microsoft operating system products like Windows XP, Windows 2000 and Windows CE available to universities and other "not-for-profit" research institutions at no charge. Currently, there are over 100 universities worldwide with our source licenses.
Wow! This is for real! I guess this is how Lindows provides Windows compatibility. MS source is out there.
We must respectfully reject your generous offer of $40 million for a week in space, due to the fact that it has come to our attention that you were cought shoplifting at K-Mart last summer.
Does it mean a lot of people will get their net traffic snooped? Hmm... I wonder which web sites Amy down the block is surfing right now and who she is exchanging emails with.
I don't care if the case is ugly or not. What's bad is that the cooling system isn't powerful enough to let me overclock the CPU twice, as with the home-made nirogen thing discussed the day before yesterday.
dd if=/dev/random of=/home
Use whatever is appropriate instead of/home
You can also overwrite files with zeros (such as the ones that come from/dev/zero or/dev/null), but the problem is that after such procedure, by physically examining the disk, one can often reconstruct the pre-existing data WITH A CERTAIN DEGREE OF ACCURACY.
If Microsoft is smart, they'll ignore this. Why? Well, they're losing around $150 USD per console, and they make the money from the games. If you buy your own high end PC, pay full sticker, and then buy their games, you're saving them money, and they're still getting their cut from the development fees for the game.
If this is true, why wouldn't they just offer all of these XBox games under Windows? Because they WANT everyone to buy XBoxes so they would monopolize the market.
I think those poor households without a computer should be given a choice: either get a free computer with a free OS or pay for the M$ licenses.
BTW, maintaining Debian stable is extremely easy. If those folks get the system pre-installed, Debian is less likely to be broken during use than Windows.
"Close call"? What are the actual odds of impact?
No major country wipeouts by asteroids happened in the last few thousand years. What are the odds of Earth being destroyed by an asteroid in the next few decades? With every other third world country developing weapons of mass destruction, right now, we have bigger threats to worry about and spend money on.
This has been said before, and I'll say it again: the open-source community would be better off developing its own Free modern language than contributing to the popularity of Microsoft's replacement for Java.

the amount of people involved in transferring and encoding must be staggering.
It's not like they are encoding the movies using a hex editor...
people who use lilo so much have bigger problems than just being bored by it

What's LinTel?
You can only encrypt the content, not the address you are connecting to.

No way I'm buying anything with XP in its name, dude.

Seems like he was mostly wrong about 2001: MS didn't settle. The recession DID happen. The recession was NOT over by the third quarter.
