Please, can we refrain from this whole 'anti Microsoft' rubbish?

Nintendo are still around, because they are probably the best developers in the world, and also have the most recogniseable franchise of characters around.
Sony are still around because they have managed to market the PSX and the PS2 so succesfuly. Plus, they have the 'Sony' brand to help them out.
MS are a 'smaller player' because they havent been in the business so long. Not to mention the fact that they havent got the 'name tag' appeal that Sony and Nintendo have. Most people see Microsoft as something they use at work, not something that they put under their TV.

And what companies have MS bought, and as a result ruined their games? MS bought Bungie, who then put out Halo, which is a fantastic game. They have also now bought Rare, a company who have yet to release a game since the sale. MS may now buy Capcom, but seeing as how Capcom have posted some big losses, it is a far better proposition than if they went bust.

True, it is only a console, but I would be very pissed off if someone started faffing about with my save games. If someone deleted my Halo save after I had completed it on Legendary, I would be VERY annoyed.

Its like all the little 'hackers' who ruined Phantasy Star Online on the Dreamcast - they went around killing people, and corrupting their save game files. Their justification was that it is just a game, and that you arent actually losing anything.

Someone corrupted my save on PSO when I was level 63. That was 96 hours of play. Sure, my character was only a bunch of zeros and ones, and isnt anything 'real', but the TIME spent getting that character to level 63 is REAL.
If you spent 63 hours building a wall, and someone came along and wrecked it, you would be pissed off.

They have also been advertising ALOT recently.
Not sure what it is like for NTL customers, though.

This isnt all good news, though. It is more down to the fact that broadband isnt taking off as quickly as it should, and they are desperate for new customers. Both Blue Yonder AND NTL have got massive debts numbering in the billions, and there is much talk of a merger.
I have had my cable connection for over 6 months now, with no real complaints. I hope that this doesnt change when/if they DO decide to merge. I just couldnt hack going back to 56K...

  15. Then they Should Provide Faster Service on Security Focus on Cable Modem Uncapping · · Score: 0

In the UK, the fastest commercialy available broadband is ADSL - 512 down, 256 up.

I have cable, which is 512 down, 128 up. The upload is a bit stingy really, and can cause a bit of lag when playing online sometimes, but often it is ok. I play Halo online on my Xbox, and whilst it is fine with two or three players, anymore than that, and it lags BADLY. Halo wasnt designed for online play, and is a real bandwidth hog.
This is the service I pay for, and so that is the service I get - I have no excuse for using any sort of hack to make it faster.

My ISP, Blue Yonder, are currently doing trials for a 1mbit line, but they dont know if the upload is going to be increased yet. This is really annoying, as I only really want a faster upload - 512 down is fine for me.

Surely this hack shows that there is a market for faster broadband in general?

So, if I had a cheat file for Crazy Taxi on my VMU, it would affect me.

To be honest, I dont blame Sega from banning all those that cheated - I was PK'ed dozens of times, and was also NOL'ed.
Sadly, I didnt know about NOL'ing until it happened to me, so I did a Save/Quit and lost a level 63 character. That was 96 hours of play down the drain.

  21. DC Technology on PlayOnline Network To Use Dreamcast Technology · · Score: 0

I seriously hope that whatever decides to use this technology doesnt have the same problems that have plagued Phantasy Star Online.

The PSO world is almost a barren waste land now, thanks to all the hackers, cheaters and Player Killers. When PSO first came out, it was an amazing experience. You could logon, and be playing a game in seconds. All games were 'open', as there wasnt much need to play in passworded games.
This soon changed. Once the hackers got going, it totally ruined it. Virtually ALL games are password locked now, and so any newcomers are pretty much doomed. The only reason I get to play good games, is because I have joined a PSO Yahoo Group - and its great fun.
But I shouldnt have to join such a group, just so I can play the game properly. Trouble is, we have recently had some problems with someone getting into our games, and PK'ing us all, and saving over our characters.
So thanks, whoever you are - just pray you dont meet me in real life.
