It seems (from my admittedly limited reading on the subject) that Japan's aggressive adventures were a fairly recent* development. The country apparently enjoyed a peaceful, matriarchal society for quite a while. I'm sure there were people in the country quite happy to see the military get spanked, and I'm sure there are plenty of Japanese today who realize the benefits of a non-aggressive society.
*as a student of archaeology my definition of 'recent' may differ from yours
Bell can't be accused of doing everything wrong. Far from it. The reliability and durability of their hardware was never an issue. You could beat a man to death with a Bell handset. Their main problem, from a general customer's point of view, was that if you needed customer service you could go fuck yourself as far as they were concerned.
Hmm... on the one hand you dismiss "some association or group of labcoats" and on the other hand you ask me to cite two sources and a study to back myself up. Who exactly would you accept as an authority? I'm sure you realize that any valid and peer-reviewed study would be done by a 'labcoat' who probably belongs to an 'organization' or two.
I think the truth is that you will never accept as an authority any person or body that professes a view opposite to one you hold, regardless of experience or education.
I tend to favor the opinion of professionals over some random jerkoff on the internet.
If you've studied the issue for more than a decade and also have a legitimate reason for going against the consensus of your peers, I'd love to hear it.
The American Medical Association has given formal recognition to the disease concept since 1956. You're only half a century behind the times... not too late to catch up.
If you assume that all doctors keep abreast of developments in their fields there really is no need for advertising. I'm sure you've seen all of the "ask your doctor if xyz is right for you" ads. Shouldn't they already know what's available?
((as an aside, I always pick a young doctor as my primary care physician simply because they will generally be more up to date. I also generally choose female doctors because I know that they still have to work harder than their male counterparts to gain the same level of respect))
Yeah, I remember a Sesame Street episode where Ernie sticks a banana in his ear to protect him from alligators. It's obviously working because he hasn't been attacked.
Meh, calling middle-eastern nations representative of Islam is like calling America representative of Christianity. We love to say we're a Christian nation, but our actions show time and again that this is simply not the case. An outsider judging "our religion" based on our actions would conclude that Christians are hypocrites of the first order. Is that fair?
The article does not mention games, but only because the author isn't totally clueful. The fact that the GP brought them up shows that he was thinking a little bit.
also... Cringely is frequently wrong, but always for interesting reasons. One of the few talking heads (typing fingers?) out there who seem to process what they take in rather than reframe what they read. You would do well to emulate this behavior.
Actually, that's why I'd like to try a "MInority Report" arm waving system for a while. Add a couple of wrist weights and you could get a nice workout while you work... (grin) Look up the term "gorilla arm". Vertical interfaces like this are indeed a nice workout, no weights necessary.
Actually/. started off anti-MS because we used to be a collection of IT-type people who actually had to work with their products and deal with their employees. MS has improved a bit over the years but is now, in the minds of a lot of people, simply a known bad actor.
Basically, what you call "two minutes hate" is just recollection. I'm not sure why so many fans of the company cannot see that a lot of us are simply "once burned, twice shy".
The old Mac finder was simple in such a positive way that It's a shame it couldn't have been used in a situation like this. You could have called it "sotakemitocourt" or something.

I think your show Brasseye probably had the best take on the situation.
Why don't you leave the cogitatin' to the grownups.
Oh come on. Just because something doesn't work the last twenty times you've tried it doesn't mean it damn well shouldn't.

For the MS support experience in a nutshell, google John Belushi's Ma Bell sketch from the early days of SNL.
Actually NWN2 already employs the only time tested, guaranteed to work copy protection scheme. It sucks.
+1 Obligatory

You know what, kids? It didn't used to kill you. That's one for your generation.

Or just look at the name of the poster, I guess...

Why do so many people have such a hard-on for this guy? He has several previously identified accounts, so just tag them as 'foe' and be done with it.
((btw, if you feel that you are "educating the masses" in regards to general douchebaggery, please be advised that we've seen it all))
God dammit, do we really need a metaphor for a simple concept like this?
