There have been a couple that targetted i386 Linux. The only one I remember details of someway or another attached itself to DOOM, but I do not know how.
It is not about not running MS software. Any OS is going to be attackable. It is because UNIX users tend to know more about how their computers work and how to secure them. They also know what is a risky behaviour and avoid or only walk into it with extreme caution.
Even a well-maintained Windows system is not going to be attacked by a virus very easily. I have been running Microsoft software for going on 15 years now and have never had a problem. This is because I take good care and I know how things work. If Windows users were educated about how to properly manage a system, there would be few successful attacks.
Funny, it was just yesterday I was wondering if there was a BeOS Look And Feel for swing. Anyway, it is good to see that BeOS will be supported. Now if I could only get a supported version for FreeBSD, I'd be set.
I really like see Kirk McKusick, Bill Joy, Jordan K. Hubbard, Theo DeRaadt, and Mike Karels on the list. These are all people who have done far more for free software than anyone gives credit for. I'd really like to see anyone of them win.
The Matrix was one of the worst movies made this decade. The plot was unrealistic. The characters were poorly acted (except Mobius). The special effects were weak. And I really object to casting a pretty poor with no brain as a Christ-figure.
I would agree with that if it were not for the fact that you/me/each of us are submitting a story. I would rather see my post edited that not personally. That is what he editor is there for. (I cannot beat on this point hard enough.)
The first GUI for UNIX was the Blit in 1981 from Bell Labs. MIT released X Windows in 1983 or 1984.
No, because I am a moderator right now and last time I was in MSP waiting to fly to DCA, I couldn't find a terminal. Where in the hell are they?
I was not refering to this specific instance of a virus attack. Get off your high horse and use your head.

There is an implicit assumption that there will never be a virus for the first poster's OS and that simply isn't true.

Please note, the individuals who own the copyright on the image prefer that you not call him Chuck.
It's all good. :)

They are, it was supposed to say "I like seeing," or damn it's sweet that they are on the list.

Hell, I could come up with $20k over night and I'm young.
:)
Yeah, but would it be legal?
Pretty difficult to improve upon perfection.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
:)
I had just read an email on Mobius strips and I think it carried over
Repeating that you would like Hemos and Taco to do something is not an argument in its favor.
:)
This is more than what I want them to do. This is what the editors of other publications do.
Hemos is an editor
Then what else is he?
editing without notification is OK
I for one assume that the posts should be edited, notification is not required.
Or have I gone too far by suggesting that Slashdot is a member of the reputable media?

I read it. I just know you are wrong. :)

I figured with the buyout by Andover, they'd gain a level of professionalism around here. Mayhaps that was a poor assumption.
No, he is an editor. His job it to screen, edit, and aprove submissions. Haven't you people ever published anything?
Likely, the submittor was searching news sites for 'Linux', in hopes of finding something to submit to /.
Yeah, that thought occured to be after I posted it. Kind of sad, really.
He is an editor, by definition, it is his job.
For some strange reason, that is a function of the URL. If you remove a small part of the URL ("fq=Linux&", working from memory, could be wrong), it makes Linux red at ever occurance (and not a bitmap). To try it, check out this URL: http://www.newsalert.com/bin/story?StoryId=Cob0Eub KbytaWmte&Nav=na-search-&StoryT itle=Linux
Hemos, that should be "proved" not "proofed."
Actually, a geek-recipies section of Slashdot would be pretty cool. Malda, what do you think?
