  1. Re:Neocomputers on Buying a Small, Light Linux Notebook Computer? · · Score: 1

I've used(and worked on) the sager notebooks. Granted, they were older models(3 years old), but they are really awful. When comparing a Sager model to something else from a respectable manufacturer like Sony or Apple, they simply don't compete. Regarding support, Sager did help me to find a cd-rom drive for one of their laptops, but I was a bit worried since it would appear that their entire support staff working the phones speak English as a second language. Had a little bit of trouble trying to communicate my needs...;) Summary: The Sager notebooks are bad and I won't buy one.

why the devil would it matter whether you had the latest NAV or not? I'm not even sure I'd accept the excuse of: well, gee, I guess its because my boss told me I have to have NAV installed...educate your boss.

I must admit that starting 3 years ago I started preaching the power of linux even though I was, at that time, using windows. Before the mutterings of hypocrite, ignoramus, and sham, let me say this: I desperately wanted to stop using windows, but I was afraid. I was afraid of going over to a platform that, even though I knew was better, was unfamiliar to me as a beginner. Once I did switch though, I ne ver looked back. I will also say that I also sleep better at night now that I can back up my statements with action!

  6. Re:Telephony on VoIP Cell Phones Coming · · Score: 1

Tell me how you think circuit switched networks with their heavy reliance on centralized services(and enormous overhead required to deliver what amounts to SS7 encoded data anyway) are doing currently. Think about it...how many folks out there have experienced less than satisfactory service while making a cell phone call? The point therefore is not that we try to emulate the quality standards of the past. Those days are gone. Perhaps we should be ashamed for allowing ourselves to become complacent and put up with dropped calls and echos, but I still choose a cell phone over a landline phone any day. The fact remains that customers will define for us as engineers the expected requirements. Sadly or not, those requirements and expectations are sliding. Will IP networks be prevalent enough for this? Of course. They already are. Will IP networks provide a way to secure the data? Its an open standard, get busy! Will people object to their phone calls buzzing through data networks as 1's and 0's? They don't care! They just want to be able to get service and make calls.

Hmmm. My goodness, you're absolutely right. All this time I've been under a dark, dank oppressing philosophy that puts forth a moral standard. How stupid of me! And since I'm liberated now, why not decry the government? Let's just live according to our own definitions of morality, because, by gum, we're all ok at heart, right? Then again, I don't think I'm always a saint, and if I do stuff that's wrong every now and again...wait a minute, I forgot, I'm always right! I feel much better now that I escaped my cramped conservative style to live in my confused fantasy.

Isn't XML more of a lower-level style language? In other words, I would think that UML would be better suited to handle high-level documentation of systems whereas XML is intended to provide documentation of software systems at more of a module level (lower level). Does that make sense or am I way off?
