Sony and Microsoft will collaborate on the next gen gaming console called the X-Station, based on a new 128bit processor called the Penturon, developed in cooperation between Intel and AMD which works on a new bus system created by Atari and Nintendo
You know, I find it ridiculously hard to even read the newspapers anymore, and sometimes hard to read the magazines.
The basic reason is that people don't report news facts, but rather they report news opinions.
I'm just so sick of seeing these headlines that scream The Sky is Falling! and their proof is based on screenshots of a product they haven't used, or even worse, rumors of such-and-such without having validated it true or false.
The worst part is that we (geekville) are doing the exact same thing!
If we could stop this garbage race to see who can post the latest blah blah blah before we back it up ourselves with true proof that we've seen with our own eyes... we would probably see more progress in development instead of time wasted on pointing fingers and lawyer fees....
I don't remember the exact quote, but I've always liked it!
It goes something like:...We're sitting on 50,000,000 gallons of fuel, and a machine that has 250,000 moving parts, and it was built by the lowest bidder!
If you started applying that to the rest of our world, it really makes you feel safe driving across that bridge on your way to and from work, eh?
New guy: Why did it take 8 hrs again? Bill wannabie: Well, we compiled it on Windows machines and they BOSD-ed on us 5 times! New guy: I think I can solve that for XP...
They used a Linux Server Farm to compile everything!!!
My friend extremely versed in the Telco-land, tells me a little while back, SWBell had the neat idea of extending the fiber running to the DSLAM for DSL service into the homes directly terminated w/an OC3 connection. Then they could provide cable like visual services--movies, ads, etc... at much higher speeds/resolutions.
He said recently, they stopped this idea, because as soon as they release it as a telco-service, the FCC says everyone else gets to offer the same thing, and SWBell has to give them (competitors) discounted rates so they can profit.
I'm all for the competition, and a free-market society, but the competition doesn't "own" the lines, so they can't do R&D -- nor do they have half the $$$ that the "Big Dogs" do. What really ends up happening, is the consumers get the shaft because the "Big Dogs" are too greedy to share their precious R&D toys.
Don't really see a solution to this one anytime soon.:^(
You put your right foot in, you pull your right foot out.
You put your right foot in and you shake it all about.
You do the HOKEY POKEY and you turn yourself around.
THAT'S what it's all about.
~~ Sorry, couldn't help myself after reading this guy's (umm, what was it he called it?) ten shots in the dark
I can see it now, he put all these predictions everyone likes to talk about up on a wall, then threw 10 darts at them and the ones he hit -- well, you get the idea;)
If it comes with ejector seats, will they work on the ground too?!
What do you mean "never being bombed"?!
;)
You should see how much some of these guys drink!
You forgot the one about...

Has Linus seen The Fast and the Furious yet?
Kernel 2.6 really needs to incorporate some NOS flow control, otherwise we'll top out at 140Mph!
