24bit, 96Khz Stereo = about 8mbps (This is superior to DVD Quaility)
    16bit, 48Khz Stereo = about 1.5mbps (This is a normal sound card.)

    These numbers are uncompressed/raw/digital audio.

So 6 Channels of uncompressed/raw/digital 16bit, 48Khz Stereo is about 4.5mbps. But with encoding and such, that number will go down to about 3mbps with 24/96 audio.

So don't worry, your usb game pad will still work.

I wouldn't be surprise to see LCD attached to the box the same way with small boxes in different shapes.

Apple create a style on it's own that other business try to copy.
Um, IBM and plenty of other companies have been making "zero-foot-print" pc's for years. Apple also copies, um Xerox, uh PARC. Even "zero-noise" fan-less pcs were out before the cube.

MS is the best example for the OS. When I first saw XP, I just felt it was a ugly try to do like OS X.
And Mac OS X is BSD with a nice interface. Apple has done NOTHING INNOVATIVE. During the past two years all they have done is take market proven concepts (Hell, even the origanl iMac is a rip-off of a compaq pc from '93) and put that rounded corner and clear design on them.

Until Apple learns that "Form before Function" will not improve their market share. The origanl iMac had a good balance of form and function. It was the fastest selling pc ever. Brought Apple from a 4% market share to a 5%.

    Too much like the cube.

Say what you will, the cube was way ahead of it's time.

What? A total lack in hardware upgradeablility, numerous manufacturing flaws. It was just a fantastic illustration that form before function only serves a small amount of people. That's why no-one bought one.

The display is too small - it's an iBook display.

It's the biggest it's going to get at current (and near current) prices

    That doesnt mean its right.

    Expandability expandability expandability

    Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity, my friend.

And this is why the cube did sooo well?

    Versatility versatility versatility

Well, it looks just as versatile as the original iMac to me :-). Give it some time, maybe it will grow on you, I thought the iMac was big ugly blob when I first saw it, but it really grew on me.

The imac is good at two things. Brwose the web and read email. The quality of the CRT's they used were complete crap. They go fuzzy at resolutions higher than 800x600. Can you imagine the cheap LCD's they are using on the new imac? Thier manufacturing reputation not stellar so I wouldn't put to much trust in that arm.

The big difference is that, unlike Windows, Linux doesn't grant users unlimited power by default.

um, NT does this since 1995 and XP also does this on the newest home OS. As a matter of fact NTFS is by far more robust than the permissions/security of most *nix file systems.

Don't let your ignorance of MS security dictate your opinion of it.

Basically, the reason why there are alot of MS viruses and almost none of the linux sort is that MS is installed on 90% of all computers. If I wanted to write a virus that would spread, why the heck would I write one that has less than 2% of the computers out there.

The thing that is holding back linux (and to some extent macOS) is that when JOE PUBLIC goes and buys a scanner for his computer. * 10 out of 10 have drivers and software for windows * 1.5 out of 10 have drivers and software for mac * 0 out of 10 have drivers and software for linux That doesn't mean it won't work in Linux, But Joe Public can't recompile a linux kernel to get it to work, or even figure out mandrake's driver set-up software(which I got to say is the easiest by far in the linux world). The other thing. Walk into a computer sture and look on the software on the shelves. 95% windows, 4.99% Mac, .01% Linux. I know that there is an abundance of online software available, even topshelf games, but for JOE PUBLIC that has problems printing an email, and has difficulty installing software that only requires him to insert a CD and answer a few questions, asking him to compile, run a shell script or even install from an rpm is out of the question. Linux is a fantastic server platform. It will be a winner in the destop world right after MacOS, BeOS, and WARP. Remember Betamax was a far superior format, and lost. Linus is NOT the superior desktop. It is not even a superior Server Platform. It is just a qualified alternative. Each has its strength and weaknesses.
