Only for a small, random smattering of chips. The vast majority of i5s and i7s you find on Newegg and the like don't, and most systems that ship also don't include CPUs with ECC support. It's certainly not universal across all products, while AMD has made things like VT-x, VT-d, and ECC common to all their processors.
Obama is willing to compromise, as long as he gets everything he wants.
I'm sorry, you seem to have mistaken Obama for Mitch McConnell, Eric Cantor and the rest of the Tea Party Republicans. They refused to compromise on anything right up until the last minute and I suspect they'll do it again. Now they have nothing to lose because they failed to make Obama a one-term President.
Sorry, but it's not Obama being a worthless piece of shit.
You do realize that the only reason Benghazi is even remotely believed to be some massive incident is because Fox News and other right wing talking heads keep chattering on like mad about it. Sometimes shit happens and there's no way to plan for it.
But hey, anything to take down Obama. That was the plan for the last two years and it failed miserably.
It's bad ideas like this that will help propel the Android desktop. Now that Valve is diving into Linux and Nvidia is optimizing for it as well it wouldn't surprise me to see a decent challenge to Windows in the near future.
Valve's focus at this point is standard Linux, not Google's incompatible platform.
built in virus protection (not that it's _that_ problematic)
Classic viruses aren't the problem now. These days it's all trojans run by unsuspecting users.
And you completely, utterly miss my point. Resorting to the "oh the source is still there!" argument while ignoring the fact that so much "secret sauce" will be kept back to discourage use of the open compiler in favor of the expensive, seat-licensed versions.
No, it's the ignorant implication that someone can't actually get paid and make a living working on free software, and that people who work on free software are "idiots."
That was a point I made to a co-worker. If there's anyone that would be interested in swooping down and grabbing the GPU division, it'd be Qualcomm. They bought AMD's mobile GPU IP for Adreno, no reason for them not to add another feather to their cap and restore the ATi name for a discrete graphics brand, while having all the same knowledge to enhance their mobile GPUs even further.
I just hope that if it happens, Qualcomm doesn't drop all non-Android Linux support.
Yeah, it'd be great if some idiot were to spend 10 years of their free time neglecting their families so that all this stuff could be free, but no one really wants to be that idiot
And as usual, a BSD proponent includes some sort of ignorant insult. Your commentary was good until this bit.
How are they going to hire extra developers to keep the edge over LLVM?
How have they gotten this far? It's not like GCC is struggling to keep pace in development.
Once LLVM takes over the crown I believe it makes more sense for a lot of GCC developers to just continue their work on LLVM instead, and GCC will shrink to irrelevance.
Why would a GCC developer move to LLVM? Do you believe that all of the developers on the project are so opportunistic that they would simply jump to a different compiler? I suspect more than a few are also GPL supporters.
But it's still good for all involved, as everybody gets a better compiler:)
Well, better for some people. I suspect that the first fallout of any industry shift to LLVM will be that the public compiler will be significantly lacking in optimizations while the expensive, proprietary versions will have all the good optimizations.
I'd love to see some of these cloud storage services start opening up their protocols instead of relying on security through obscurity. I have a dropbox account, and I'd rather like to be able to use it on Linux without a silly proprietary daemon (and also on non-x86 platforms.)
So I'm guessing that you're objecting to the fact that apparently only Democrats are up to shenanigans today.
Oh of course, only Democrats would do bad things. Republicans are right and good and would never dare fuck with the vote to win. Oh wait.
I did not ignore any links of Republicans up to funny business, I simply didn't see any.
Republicans have been up to funny business in state legislatures across the country deliberately making it harder for people to vote under the guise of "preventing vote fraud," despite the fact that the only people caught recently were Republicans. That you think they aren't up to any funny business means you're blind to the legislative bullshit they've been pulling across the country to fuck over the citizens of their states and this country.
You calling me biased because you don't like me reporting what Democrats are actually doing speaks volumes of your own bias.
Given you cite a number of articles on aggressively "conservative" web sites, I suspect that you refuse to look outside your tiny world.
Rozeff, in abstaining from participating, is part of the problem.
I particularly like the first quote. Kind of mind expanding.
It's about as sane as the people who believe they are a Sovereign Person. Just because you didn't sign off on it or disagree with it does not negate its authority.
The D and R parties want to use the constitution as toilet paper, other than the R have been beating the drum for almost 5 years that Obama is a Kenyan, and that little clause about prez being native born is sacred, but the rest of the constitution and BoR is just used Charmin so don't worry about it.
The Republicans acting like right hypocrites when it's not their guy in office? Say it ain't so.
I'm trying to determine if you have a real point here, but am having a hard time doing so.
So as a thought experiment, say he came from Kenya, what do I care, the cleaning lady at work is an illegal el salvadorian and no one cares much and its not my rule, nor do I much care about that particular rule.
It's one thing to come and look for a job, it's another to represent a nation. Immigration laws need to be fixed, doesn't mean we should suddenly let people come in from outside to represent us.
Many of the core kernel developers, including Linus himself, are employees of the Linux Foundation. Additionally, Kernel.org is supported by the Linux Foundation. The foundation spends quite a bit of time managing various and sundry summits which serve to bring the disparate kernel developers together.
They function both as a bit of infrastructure support as well as a promotional arm, though almost exclusively with respect to the kernel. They get real hype on Android because it gets the kernel out there, but rarely utter a word about standard Linux distros.
Yes, you can go through a ridiculously complex process to install a key that will expire and Microsoft can revoke so that you can run some software on your system. It's more akin to Apple's extreme restrictions on side loading than Android's 3rd party sources checkbox. The only difference is that Microsoft isn't charging you $99 to get one. You're still at Microsoft's mercy, and no one can use your application unless they too are capable of repeating the steps.
I don't know why people keep defending this. It's designed explicitly to inhibit people from using it and bypassing the store.
These are already available in cheap Chinese tablet
Do tell!
I hear all these amazing things about having the latest, high end hardware in the Cheap Chinese Tablets yet I can never find any that are more than GPL-violation propagating garbage.
the cost of cell phones if you purchase them outright is about 2-3x what it is if you buy them on contract
Nonsense. The cost of a cell phone you buy on contract is usually more, as you repay the subsidy discount and then some in the service fees over the duration of the contract. Losing your phone only means they get to bone you harder.
Since Microsoft referenced SurfCasts patent in their patent, I suspect Microsoft determined that they were different enough to not require a licensing deal.
Precisely why software patents are a huge hazard. Even if you do a patent search and your lawyers say that you don't infringe on a patent, you can still be sued by the patent holder and be dragged through court to defend it.
Hardware companies need to also release hardware designed for linux.
No they don't. They need to ensure that there is support in the kernel for their hardware, something that they very frequently don't do, leaving Linux users in the lurch and allowing people to go "oh it's Linux's fault, Linux sucks" when compared to Windows which has drivers available to it.
Put holes in the corners and connect them via metal rings. Create yourself a suit of nerd armor the likes of which has never been seen. With 500 DIMMs you should be able to get a chest piece or pair of gauntlets...

It's a conspiracy!
You do realize that the only reason Benghazi is even remotely believed to be some massive incident is because Fox News and other right wing talking heads keep chattering on like mad about it. Sometimes shit happens and there's no way to plan for it.

Unsubstantiated statement.
No, it's the ignorant implication that someone can't actually get paid and make a living working on free software, and that people who work on free software are "idiots."
It's, sadly, typical of BSD-proponents.
That was a point I made to a co-worker. If there's anyone that would be interested in swooping down and grabbing the GPU division, it'd be Qualcomm. I'm trying to understand your point, but it's so unbelievably stupid I can't believe it's true.
Are you suggesting that in a system like what we have today, someone would actually spend the $3000+ they're asking to retrieve the records?
That's hardly an industry shift and you know it.
So we're going to ignore all of the proprietary, seat-licensed compilers out there?
Quick! Into the name-calling and ad-hominem!
Do they? Unless you're on their compiler team you can't possibly know this.
I believe the phrase "you mad" applies very, very well to your spittle-flecked rant here.
And as usual, a BSD proponent includes some sort of ignorant insult. Your commentary was good until this bit.

Pretty selective in your links. Next time make sure your bias isn't so obvious.

Or maybe it's not that at all? But it has to be what you suggest. It can't possibly be anything else.
No one is owed that business. But it's hard to get those contracts when the incumbent holds all the secrets to the document format in use.
Because Microsoft totally hasn't manipulated standards bodies and harassed politicians who have pressed for open standards.

It would have to. E17 is the widget set specified in Tizen, and its development is heavily funded by Samsung.
