I think the Manning case looks like Manning contacted Wired to give them the scoop and the leaks. He wanted to report about the wrong, illegal and underhanded tactics of US government, especially its foreign policy. Im very unconvinced he was bragging about it all over.
Wired tricked Manning and instead of protecting him as their source the douchebags turned him over to the feds, and im very sure thats something that the logs show with utmost clarity. If it wasnt for Wired being a bunch of retards the US would still be running around looking for a culprit, accusing Assange of hacking so i guess there is one upside to their complete lack of moral and spines.
I manage almost exclusively Linux servers and i must say the command line saves me ooodles of time. Some quirks can be alleviated by just restarting some services before they run out of memory, some needs a bit more magic but nothing takes time like having to login to many computers every day and click on the same friggin GUI stuff on multiple servers.
Bash saves me time by totally taking repetitive tasks away. Ive tried the same with some Windows machines but while powershell has potential, it does not work in reality unless you are a 100% Microsoft shop, and you happen to run the limited set of applications that has full support for powershell.
Maybe in time Windows will climb up to the level of Linux when it comes to manageability but right now i spend most of my time doing repetitive stuff on my Windows boxes while i write scripts that handles anything on the Linux boxes.
Some of the first cars was deemed dangerous and to silent so in order to drive them in town you had to put a bloke infront of it walking in advance with a ringing bell to warn eventual pedestrians. I guess we have now gone full circle and arrived at the same place of utter madness.
How about the war on terrorism, the war on drugs, the war on criminality, Haiti, the israel/palestine conflict, the israel/iran conflict, north and south korea, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and all the other cookie jars the US has its hands in?
Im pretty sure the real reason the govt want the data is because they want a map over every wifi but they cant get one themselves. As soon as Google hands it over it will slip onto every three letter agency in the US. Make a database out of it and you can pinpoint just about anyone with ease by help of your friendly ISP.
I see you have eaten and digested the propaganda very well. Iran is not a crazy banana republic with raving mad leaders.
The US and Israel wants an excuse to invade, just as the lies about Iraq WMD was used to fool the world. It doesnt matter if Iran stops its (for now) civilian nuclear program, some other excuse will be made. Iran sadly needs nuclear weapons to protect itself from the US and Israel.
Do you seriously think Iran would launch a first strike at Israel knowing it would turn every square inch of Iran into a parking space?
Up until today Israel and the US has been far more aggressive against other countries than Iran, who furthermore has had to defend themselves from US weapons, chemical weapons and money through Saddam back when he was US best buddy.
Iran needs nuclear weapons to be sure US and Israel wont invade. Those two knows that the minute Iran has nuclear weapons as a deterrent, they cant invade. This is an endless loop where Usrael says invasion is the only solution because Iran is trying to get nuclears to deter an invasion.
The only really path to getting Iran off the path to nuclears are that the US and Israel promises to not invade Iran. Since thats their goal they wont.
One can hope China will step in and assure the freedom of Iran from US/Israeli aggression and thus disarm the situation. Thus far China have taken a very laid back aproach to the rest of the world and tried to not interfere with other countries policies. Maybe the time has come to rethink that.
I expect the next winter olympics being held in Brazil, summer olympics in Himalaya, human rights conventions in China and Iran holding the next talks about non profileration of nuclear weapons and technology.
Seriously, the US has lost its shine. Proper response would have been "fuck no, thats not the american way!" and letting some higher ups get kicked sideways to some cushy government job.
Instead they try to kill the messenger and ignore the huge pile of stinking US foreign policy. "The terrorists hate our freeeeedoooommm" No, they hate your foreign policy that kills them and their families.
If the US would have their say, Assange and the rest of Wikileaks would be murdered and buried. The world would know nothing about the documents.
I would say that what the US does with political pressure against Amazon, ICANN, Tableausoftware and a slew of other places would correspond rather exactly to what you think China would do? The reason Wikileaks information is "ALL over the news" is that the US cant contain the whole world. If it could i have no doubt we would know nothing about Assange at all.
Do you know what fascism stands for? Read this and take a while to think about it in detail. I will be very surprised if you cant see many similarities to the US. The only difference in the US is that you can choose between two identical parties with the same goals.
If the US has a hidden goal of making China look pretty moderate and nice in comparison to the west, its working like a charm. It would be doubleplus ironic if China would lighten their censoring at the same time as the west applies what now looks like total censorship on all leaked material.
I was uncertain before but now im 100% certain, China will take over as the next super power and it will happen a lot faster than i could ever expect. I couldnt imagine just how willing the west is to commit seppuku and dismantle the democracy in favour for totalitarian fascism. Moussilini would be proud.
Cant agree more. Sweden has since WW2 been a puppet state for the US. Officially not so much but under the surface, always there bending over as deep as possible.
Its for example more than evident the US has had an enormous influence on the ThePirateBay trial where swedish precedents and laws have been tossed out the window. The raid was ordered by a swedish politician, something not legal in our ruling system. We have helped the US capturing innocent muslims for extradition and torture in egypt and many other places. We got the extensive survaillance program into the EU, coincidentally by the same politician ordering the ThePirateBay mock trial.
This is in no way in tune with swedish citizens and that has the politicians sweating. If it gets out just how deep in the US pockets they are people would be furious. The foreign minister seems to be shitting bricks over the leaks so i look forward to reading how he has betrayed sweden.
Even if i dont like it, i do think the only viable solution in the current climate is if the open source community gets its own warchest of patents to use in negotiations.
A fund where you could input your inventions that patented them and then offer them to anyone using a GPL license for their code. If a corporate entity wants in, fine, just cross license and use them for all they care as long as they dont use their patents against GPL licensed code.
I think the pinning of backports and NoAutomatic makes using them a bit complicated for many users. A simple GUI where you could choose the most common userland packages would go a long way.
It could just as well be multiple universes. The thing that triggers a big bang could be a certain mass in a black hole. That is, when enough of our know universe accumulates in a black hole, boom headshot! Could just as well happen all over in places we havent seen or that are just to far away.
While i understand that you want the foundation to be fairly stable that in itself creates a slew of problems. Foremost that stuff like Firefox, OpenOffice and other userend apps wont get upgraded to newer versions until the next rollover.
My personal dream would be a distribution where the user end is getting upgraded often and fast while stuff under the hood gets overhauled less often.
A suggestion would be major overhauls once every two years of the backend stuff while user applications is kept on newest stable versions. That way developers of backend stuff gets ample time to iron bugs out while users wont have to upgrade the whole desktop just to get a new version of an app.
I would join in a heartbeat if i feel i can trust Diaspora. Facebook on the other hand, no way in hell ill put my data up for theirs to sell to anyone.
I hate Facebook with a passion and i know a whole lot more people who does. The only reason some of them are there is "because everyone else is". Give them an alternative and theyll jump ship without looking back.
Not really a supercomputer sitting under my desk by any means unless you talk about a supercomputer from over 20 years ago, and even then it wouldnt be as fast at I/O.
The supercomputers of 2000 are pretty impressive if you ask me and we are nowhere near getting perfomance even remotely like those for a long time.
Lets hope some more work is put into light based computers. Those hold the promise of much faster single core CPUs. Current efforts seems wasted when you go beyond 10-15 cores. Mostly you'll only have a bunch of dead cores waiting for something useful to do, while not being able to help much when you really need a spike in CPU power.

I think the rest of the world would be honestly thrilled if the US got some other stuff at their hands other than this kinds of stuff:

Thanks, coffee all over my screen!
It would be funny if the only major news corp attending would be Fox.
He tried two of them and all he got was a rape accusation.
Actually, most terrorist funds comes from US pals like Saudi Arabia and other nice dictatorships they support.

Damn, i was just about to write that. XD
Funny as hell!

Yes, but i was more or less after this being the default. Making stuff easier for more average users.
It could just as well be multiple universes. The thing that triggers a big bang could be a certain mass in a black hole. That is, when enough of our know universe accumulates in a black hole, boom headshot! Could just as well happen all over in places we havent seen or that are just to far away.
