as far as home consoles go, IIRC, the N64 & Dreamcast are the only ones in the last... 15 or so years to debut at $200. The fact that the Gamecube did as well is still just the exception, not the rule.
The first five episodes (The Pluto Campaign) are available on a DVD from Colombia/Tri-Star -- I don't know about the other 35 or so episodes however. One can always hope -- Roughnecks was the single best CG show ever.
on the other hand, do you think tokyo joe really wants to pay 6800-8800 yen for Final Fantasy X? Or would he rather pay the 49.99 (if that) it will cost in the US? Even with shipping, he's saving bucks, which is why there's money-saving reasons on both sides to not go to such a global economy...
Isn't this just a PS2 equivalent to the Net Yaroze they released for the PSX a few years back? It's essentially a dev kit, except with a more similar interface to linux users.
Unfortunately, it also suffers from the Japan-only restriction the Net Yaroze had too.:(
Still, it'll be nice to see what people come up with. I believe Net Yaroze is how at least one of the NES->PSX emus came about...

The irony being that, as of this year, I believe, the Wizard of OZ (the book) is public domain, no?

uhh i don't know, how about a NO. simpsons debuted christmas '89... ren and stimpy wasn't until (at LEAST) summer '90, if not '91.
better yet, try looking it up on IMDB, let's do that:
The Simpsons: 17 December 1989
Ren and Stimpy: 11 August 1991
wow looks pretty clear to me, simpsons MUST have ripped off ren and stimpy.
