Legislators are interested in restricting the enormous costs of lawsuits brought about by your typical SUV driving egomaniac. "Hey I'll sue this bastard, he stopped me from buying 'ENRON' because he took to long to push his wheelchair out of my way!" Ahhhh well the Segway might be a technological masterpiece, but one has to look at the overall picture of how it may be used. Local juridictions don't want to have to invest in providing new infrastructure for the segway (ie widening footpaths and narrowing roadways). After all, where would that leave Shell, BP, EXXON etc. More space for an ecological favourible mode of transport? "I don't think soo GeeDubbya, We might as well forget about getting all that Oil from Iraq".
