There never was nor will be peace on Earth and any attempts to install one doomed to fail. Faced with this realization many people ask themselves question 'what am I to do?' Anyone dare to suggest answer.

It is the same idea as the one used in psychotropic medications like zoloft, prozac and alike. When you are happy and not depressed you develop some chemicals in your brains. So if you are depressed we just give these chemicals. Now if whole of your been tells you to be unhappy because your grand mother just died, but you artificially maintain those "happy" chemicals what happens? Most of the time nothing, but once in a while someone goes completely berserk and kills all his family members, himself or does something crazy like this.

One more thing you should consider with regards of 911 service before ditching your land line though. I actually read it just today somewhere, so I am not an authority in this matters, but here it goes anyway. When you dial 911 from land line you call will be processed by local call center where they will automatically know your location. 911 calls from cell phones on the other hand will often be routed to highway patrol call center and they will not know your location unless you tell them, which takes time and may not be possible at all if for example you had heart attack and cannot talk. I guess VOIP 911 service will have similar to cell phones limitations. So, think twice before suggesting your grand parents to get rid of their land line.

We all know that most of the screw-ups result in re-shuffling of managerial position, with no consequences to the anyone but engineers, who has to suffer through yet another reorg. It is common that the least knowledgeable people end up on a top of the ladder. This is indeed a natural way of things and nor matter how properly organization was established and organized mismanagement and shit will cripple the system. We can fight it, but we cannot win. Which is not to say that we should not fight. The honest work of good scientists, engineers and true craftsmans in general is the only reason we technologically progressed from caves to what we are now.

It is not that everyone objects to movies with deep ideas, there are a lot of them ( movies that is ). It's just that characters in Matrix are too cool, they are more like a robots.
I think it is a long term trend of image taking over the substance and this movie exploits its very well. Take Tarkovsky's Solaris, it hardly had any graphics, let along CG, almost pure substance. Or his other movie 'Andrei Rublev', it is intentionally black and white with exception of couple of scenes at the end. I guess you can see that I like Tarkovsky, but that's beside the point that not everyone who does not like Matrix is elitist (of which I was accused here) and not everyone who likes it is a shallow.
