Since no one has all the program data no secrets would be let out. Everyone is just doing small computations that a larger computer somewhere puts together to make something useful. Hmm......

  16. few ways to do this on Protect Your Cell Phone From Spam · · Score: 1

There are a few ways I can see this being played out...
    1. The spammer uses cell phone email. This would be like the current email spam, in which the cell phone user would just receive tons of spam mail to their phone's email box. I'm not sure but this might already be available.

    2. Text messaging spam. In some phones that I know of users can receive text messages. I think there were a bunch of verizon commercials about this a while back. But companies would send tons of messages to the phone, much like spam email but in the text message form. If this happens I can see lots of people just turning this feature on their phone off.

    3. Telemarketing Spam, this is where the spammer makes a voice call to your phone, or a computer calls you. Both would be equally annoying if you get them the same volume that email spam is received right now. The thing is this is already available. I'm sure if you start listing your cell phone number on a bunch of forms you'll start to get telemarketing calls around 5pm each day on your cell phone. I'm guessing most people would treat these calls the say way that they treat telemarketers right now, just hang out on them.

well hopefully this doesn't catch on, it seems as if it wouldn't be as free to do this sort of spam...

Another point to be made is that for webserving FreeBSD is about as fast as you can get. If you want high loads and need to serve up lots of info FreeBSD is the answer.

Is WINE really necessary for Linux growth in the desktop area? I believe that Linux has enough of it's own apps native to the OS that we don't need to go out and run all the windows apps out there. From my experience Linux apps might be a little harder to set up, but eventually once they're running they're much more stable and more reliable then the windows counter-parts. Granted there are a few things I'd love to see work better in Linux like digital cameras but in time I have a feeling that will all be coded over.

This is kinda off topic, but I know at my school here they just recently limited the KazaA traffic with a packet shaping program. Kinda crazy, I doubt it will actually limit how many people use it, but they're trying. In my experience there's always been a way to get files. At first it was FTP, then iMesh, then Audiogalaxy, then BearShare, then Morpheus(KazaA). Once each one is shut down a new one pops up. The courts should give up, the cat's out of the bag, why try to stop it now?
