  1. Security Myth on P4 2.2GHz Overclocked to 3.5GHz · · Score: 2, Insightful

I think the flaw here was that Oracle claimed that no one can break into their software. There's always goign to be a way to get into software. It just might take a while. Unless some security team audited every single line of code over and over, which I can't imagine seeing the size of the software, there's goign to be some holes. To make a truly secure piece of software some performance is risked. From what I know of Oracle they pride themselves on performance. So my money says that they took care of the big holes, and missed a few of the smaller harder to exploit holes.

  2. Re:Bandwidth Cap and Upload/Download restrictions. on Bandwidth Demand at American Universities · · Score: 1

I go to Miami University (Ohio) and we have almost no restrictions. During peak hours they cap the residence halls at 18MB/s but at off hours it's free game. I usually just queue up large downloads for late at night, and they come in at blazingly fast speeds. The school network is pretty much a free for all, I had a few friends running warez servers just sucking up bandwidth, nothing happened, the IT dept didn't even notice. There's a bunch of MIS majors running the network here. Just my two cents. Nate

  3. Re:I can't tell who I'm looking at . . . . on ACLU Examines Face-Recognition System · · Score: 1

I saw a TV show about this on PBS a while back, it was talking about how the technology works in Britian. I guess the cameras do all the recognition by the distance between the eyes, and a couple other places on the face. They had an example of a person walking in front of the camera with all sorts of things to try and mask their looks, the only one that works was when the guy wore a hat and sun glasses and looked at the ground.
