Just to let you know, if your computer does not accept the update, but you still have problems, you should reset the power manager on your computer. This was a problem that appeared for awhile and according to the discussion forums, it can be fixed by reseting the power manager.
works natively in iTunes with the unregistered Quicktime for me. I see no reason why it wouldn't work natively in the windows version. Oh and BTW, try using iTunes, it's a damn good player.
Definate scam. The first thing that should have tipped you off was the fact that you didnt have to buy the computer if you didn't like the final price.
So if 1 person out of 100 decides, "Hey that price sucks" no one can get their computer.
Apple always honors the warranty, you just have to be creative about it. When I dropped my iBook and broke the CD door off the side, it called complaining about a flimsy CD door that broke, no explination as to why it broke was given, nor asked for. They simply offered to replace it, and the shipping was on them. When I got it back, not only had the drive door been replaced, but the screen casing (which had an internal crack) had also been replaced. Apple always honors the waranty, as long as you aren't too forthcomming about your problems.
Looks availible to me, look it's right there, in my playlist list, right below the radio list.
The iTunes Music Store requires:
* A Macintosh computer (iBook, PowerBook, iMac, eMac or Power Mac)
God damn, you mean to use an Apple service I might need an Apple machine? Who woulda thunk it?
* Mac OS X 10.1.5 or later. (version 10.2.5 or later recommended)
Well seeing as System 9 and below are no longer supported (hell the new machines won't even boot to 9) I guess it makes sense doesn't it?
* iTunes 4 must be installed
Hmm, you mean I need to install a program that can access the store in order to use the store. Jeezuz, who doe they think they are?
* Internet connection (DSL, Cable or LAN connection recommended)
I won't even touch this one
* Apple ID or.Mac account. If you don't have one, it's easy to sign-up
An account at an online store, my god, what is this world comming to?
* The iTunes Music Store is only available in the U.S.
That might have to do with licensing issues you know.
I don't want to buy ANY Apple products just to listen to music.
emusic.com - no Apple required CDs from online stores - no Apple required Kazza - no Apple supported CDs from local store - no Apple required Radio - no Apple required Live concert - no Apple required
oh, I get it, you meant you didn't want to have to buy an Apple product to use an Apple service. You want a company to just give you something because you feel entitled to it. Never mind that the customers of a company are more entitled to something from the company than you will ever be.
Oh, but wait a minute, Apple is releasing a windows version of iTunes, compatable with the music store? MY GOD IT"S A CHOICE!!! RUN FOR THE HILLS
I want CHOICE. Apple doesn't give me that.
Aside from your choice not to buy or use Apple services, nope, no choice at all. Someone is holding a gun to your head, forcing you to plunk down $500 for an old iMac, forcing you to hook it up, turn it on and use it to download music. No free will whatsoever. It's those god damned terrorists you know.
AFAIK, Removing quicktime is a matter of dragging the application to the trash. Obviously that doesn't nessesarily get rid of the codecs, but why would you want to do that? As for using another media player, simply install it and then set it as the default application for your media files.
Either you have your computes, your timing or your lying abilities way off.
the iPod was made windows compatible ~8 months ago. The 12 inch powerbook is recent as of january. So either you're lying through your teeth, you didn't do a lot of research or you have your computers messed up.
Didn't read the article because it's apparently/.ed but if from when the blurb says is correct, then these ads effectively take control of the user system without their permission and prevent the user from doing anything for 15 seconds. Could this not be construed as hacking the user's system?
Power Mac G4 Dual 1.25GHz w/1MB L3 per proc. 1.256GB DDR333 SDRAM (PC2700) - 2 DIMM (1 gig DIMM 1 256 DIMM) 80GB Ultra ATA drive Optical 1 - Combo Drive (DVD/CD-RW) NVIDIA GeForce4 MX w/64MB DDR AirPort Extreme Card Apple Pro Keyboard - U.S. English Mac OS - U.S. English Subtotal $2,144.00
Granted, it is more expensive, but not horribly so. I didn't see any mention as to whether your computer contained DVI out, Firewire, Gigabit ethernet or any wireless connectivity. These are all useful features of course, and thought they wont tack another $700 on to your PC, they will tack on some cost.
Then ofcourse there is this:
Power Mac G4 1GHz DUAL/1.256MB/80GB/DVD-R/CDRW/GigE/56K - Refurbished $1,824.00
And then of course there is always ebay for buying and assembling a system.
In all yes macs are more expensive, but certainly not the price gouge people make it out to be,
a) Apple being a mac company b) No iTunes for windows c) Smaller userbase to work out the kinks on d) Proof positive for the record companies (we already know mac users have money to spend, so they will be more likely to pay) e) Trying to promote the mac platform by doing what the PCs have failed at so far f) "It came out on mac first"
Student Computer Loans, look into them, they're wonderful things. And while your'e at it, check out the student developer package ($99 US) and the nice ~20% discount it provides, plus the added benefit of the most recent version of OS X on CD every 2 or so months
Despite the lack of tact, Mr. Garner here does make a point. If you go to a store, and buy a CD the old fashioned way with your credit card you run plenty of chances to have your number stolen:
1) Siphoned from the cardreader 2) pulled from teh line leaving the store 3) pulled from transaction logs 4) Copied by attendant 5) Printed on your reciept which you then procede to discard on the floor or trash can (CompUSA prints your CC number on the reciept, I wouldn't put it past other stores to do the same)
Because say for example, you have the computer switch mouse calls so that the left acts like the right and vice versa. When someone tells you to do something you have to determine which one you need to click because the instruction "Right click on x" is no longer correct.
For people that are experienced computer users, this obviously is not a problem. But there are many many people who still don't know much about computers beyond turning it on and opening word. Everything else to them is a mystery.
But working as a contractor and working as an employee are two different things. Our local school hires contractors to do wiring over the summers, but there's no way they would last more than a few days as regular employees.
And it is entirely possible, when he was a contractor, he was doing different work, and his incompetence showed up later.

I would think Audio enthusists would be buying the actual CDs
I'll be damned, it works for me. And even if it didn't, check out audio hijack

You can do the same with PPC hardware too. Maybe you should look into it.

OS X is $90 or cheaper if you buy from someone other than apple or CompUSA
If they don't ask, is it fraud?

Truly, the only way to win this game was not to play
that might have been the point
Have you ever been in a porta-john? People really don't know how to go to the bathroom
IIRC, the artists, by law, are supposed to get 8 on every sale, at minimum.
Because Jobs wants to give the other side the feeling of waiting and drooling over a new product?
Or because it was an afterthought?

For brand spanking new equipment:

Might have had something to do with:
a) Apple being a mac company
b) No iTunes for windows
c) Smaller userbase to work out the kinks on
d) Proof positive for the record companies (we already know mac users have money to spend, so they will be more likely to pay)
e) Trying to promote the mac platform by doing what the PCs have failed at so far

Trans-Siberian Orchestra - $9.90
3 Doors Down - $9.99
Eminem Show - $9.99
50 Cent - $9.99
looks to me like plenty of recent albums are $9.99, and those are just the ones listed on the front page
You may have sound sets enabled. In which case it's playing a sound when you click the mouse or some other system event.
Because say for example, you have the computer switch mouse calls so that the left acts like the right and vice versa. When someone tells you to do something you have to determine which one you need to click because the instruction "Right click on x" is no longer correct.
