I visited your link and would ask the following of you. Do you mean to say that the filing of a lawsuit is fact that a company or individual has done wrong? I mean we all know that lawyers would never sue anyone unless they were guilty right? And today's society would never produce individuals so quick to jump on the lawsuit bandwagon that they join suit after suit. I mean by no means would I assume that any company is completely innocent but your reasoning is flawed.
What happened to innocent until proven guilty? By your logic the fact there are no frivilous lawsuits in existance. Lets take a look at our legal system for a moment:
Class Doesn't Click for Students
According to the San Antonio Express-News, a dozen students who took a Microsoft computer certification course at the Houston branch of Southern Methodist University are suing the school, contending they were misled the course would be easy.
The 12 enrolled in June 1997 and all failed certification tests that would have made them eligible for jobs overseeing Microsoft computer systems.
Jason Crowson, the groups attorney said: They were told all they had to know how to do was point a mouse and click.
Beer Doesn't Equal Success With Women
A man sued Anhauser-Busch for $10,000 for false advertising. He claimed that he suffered physical and mental injury and emotional distress from the implicit promises in the advertisements. When he drank beer, he did not have success with women, plus he got sick.
Bank Robber Hurt in Act Sues
A convicted bank robber, on parole, robbed a California Savings and Loan branch. The bank robber placed the money roll containing a hidden "Security Pac" in his front pocket. The Security Pac released tear gas and red dye, resulting in second and third degree burns that required treatment at a hospital. The bank robber sued the bank, the Security Pac manufacturer, the city, the police and the hospital.
Our mistake, we thought you were the offender
A convicted rapist has sued the hospital where he raped a patient in her bed, saying the hospital failed to protect visitors and patients, allowing him to commit the crime. The man is seeking $2 million from the hospital for his pain and suffering.
or my personal favorite:
Take My Seat And It Will Cost You
A tort law professor at Pace University pulled the seat out from under one of his students in order to demonstrate personal injury lawsuits. Ironically, the student is now suing the professor for severe mental and physical anguish for pulling the stunt. She wants $5 million from the professor and is suing the law school as well.
To get back to the original subject..software patents are a reality of doing business today. It's unfortunate but many companies who were once producers of technology are now more than happy to try and make their profit by filing lawsuits claiming prior art instead of innovating at all. Any company that does not file patents to protect itself is setting itself up for a fall.
Your an idiot....they are not limiting you to Macs and iTunes as a method of DR Management. They are simply releasing Mac first versions the same way every other hardware/software company would. They will release a WinDoze version soon enough, they'd be stupid not to.
The Music Store tunes can be burned to cd's and DVD's, played on multiple computers (up to 3) at a time and transferred without restriction onto ANY MPEG-4 AAC capable player See for yourself
. MP3's can be transferred to any number of players also.
Unlike M$'s system you can authorize and deauthorize computers as you upgrade or replace systems.
It is by far the most reasonable form of anti-piracy protection out there. I don't mind paying for music as long as they are reasonable in their restrictions. If we don't pay then why work your tail off to become a success in the music business? Those limo's and mansions cost money ya know;)
If your beef is with recording artists and record companies making millions of bucks I don't know what to tell you..I'd like to make millions to so I guess I'm just as bad.
I wonder if you'd like to give away your services for free just because I think what you do isn't worth paying for.
Ok, maybe idiot was harsh...but please just know the facts before you speak out.
It doesn't sound like you looked very far before giving up on certain things. Learning a new platform requires investing time.
1. You can create a directory under every save dialog by expanding it and selecting the New Folder button.
2. Look on VersionTracker.com for WinZip alternatives: here
3. Java 1.4...obviously no longer a problem. They were slow in releasing it but once released it has worked flawlessly for me.
4. TextPad? Again I'd point you towards VersionTracker to find NUMBEROUS, more robust and free replacements.
5. The single menu bar isn't going anywhere...thankfully. The reason the OS works this way is well documented in Apple's User Interface Guidelines. It is this way for ease of use, it works for me and many others. Realize that the UI is based on things learned from an OS which has been around for nearly 20 years. I have never found anything more annoying than the multiple window/multiple menu system of OS's like Windows and Linux...other than how each of these windows expand to fill the entire workspace and take over after each application switch. The MacOS has always had a better environment for running multiple apps at the same time. I on average run at least 10 apps at once on my Mac and the same thing on a Windows/Linux box bugs the hell out of me, it's a matter of preference.
"There is no shortage of P2P file sharing clients for the Mac. In fact one of the first clients was Mac only for some time (Hotline). This is a short OS X only list.
Gnutella Clients: MacPhex, Mactella, Limewire, Fern, Acquisition (one of my favorites). iSwipe
Kazaa client: Neo (not a full client but it works)
KDX (a new and really very nice Mac/Win compatible P2P server/client. Great if you can ignore the immaturity of it's developers.
Carracho: A Mac only P2P client/server. Works very well.
Direct Connect: DirectConnect, Java DirectConnect
There are a ton of other options that I'm not listing but to be honest I could be here for a lot longer and "It's a Wonderful Life" is on....so Happy Holidays and happy downloading."
I forgot to mention that all of these programs can be found at:

I am not positive but I believe Apple is working on a solution for your problem right now. Sometime this month iSync should be released. It's entire purpose is to sync handhelds, phones, addressbooks, iCal etc with the same information.
"Yeah sure, you can get cpu upgrades from other people, assuming they aren't out of business (XLR8), selling overclocked parts as the real deal (powerlogix), or can actually get G4's > 500 MHz (for the longest time only apple even HAD parts > 500 MHz)."
Actually it was Sonnet who was involved in the "overclock fiasco" which wasn't actually a fiasco at all since the chips were rated higher from IBM in the first place but oh well...you can't stop the machine once it gets rolling now can you?
No you don't have to switch back to PC's. You have a Mac that runs the software now right? Problem solved. They are not making any changes to YOUR current computer, they will simply not support OS 9 on NEW hardware. Just like my G4 doesn't support OS 8.5...it will only boot OS 9 for a classic OS. There is no difference here
This is ridiculous FUD to me because most likely someone will create a hack to make the systems run OS 9. Hell, I have OS X running on a Umax S900 Mac clone using software created by OWC's Ryan Rumpel ( http://eshop.macsales.com/OSXCenter/ )...their entire business is based on upgrading older Macs to run today's OS. Do you think they are going to stop now? That Umax system originally shipped with a 604 processor at 180MHZ. Now it's got a G3 and OS X.
And as for the pricing of Jaguar...Since OS X's initial release it has had 10 upgrades (10.0-10.0.4 then 10.1-10.1.5) given to users for free or at a minimal cost of $20. Apple has charged for major upgrades since System 7. Jaguar is no different, quit whining. The only thing that has changed here is Apple's numbering scheme. Jaguar IS OS X 10.5 but they aren't calling it that. Why? because they want to keep the name OS X as long as possible. It's a cool name and it markets well, a hell of a lot better than OS XI. I imagine we'll see OS X 10.2.1-10.2.5 too...then we'll pay $20 for OS X 10.3...and 10.4 will be a full priced upgrade...get it now??? Just because a company changes it's numbering scheme doesn't mean that your getting ripped off here....look at what's included in the upgrade and then decide to yourself if this is a one point release or a major release....then....
Please people, chill out, sit back and see what happens...then get upset if you need to..worrying without the facts is silly.
I regularly backup my 80 + my 40 Gig drives using Retrospect under OS X onto DVD-R when my tape drive s*it the bed....however you can also use Retrospect and a SCSI tape drive. They just tend to be external units not internal like on PC's. Takes care of my serving needs just fine.
The GUI issue is something Apple has been made VERY aware of by it's customers. They have addressed it with the next release of OS X 10.2 which FINALLY moves 2D off to the video card. Every report I have read on it states that Jaguar is VERY fast. This is a now a non issue...next subject please.
I don't know where you got your information but I had an SE/30 that did VERY well under System 7. I'm including a link for you to look at a compatability matrix for system software on the various Macs released over the years. I think you'll be surprised at what you find. Apple has always done a good job with making systems that run software longer and continue to be productive years after release.
Wow....you are seriously homophobic and macphobic. Tell me were you hurt by a mac in your youth? Or perhaps by a homosexual? Or are you struggling with your own sexuality at this point in your life? Maybe struggling with a case of platform envy?
It's ok, take a deep breath and relax....count to 10(OS 10)...these feelings your having, well, I'm sure you'll make it through just fine. The sooner you come out of the closet with an iMac in hand and admit to your parents your lifestyle change all will be well again.
The anger will fade and your need to strike out will disappear. Until then, please stay off these message boards.....continue to eye the Macs at your local Apple store in secrecy and be careful while eyeing the other boys in the locker room lest you be slapped silly which now that I think of it...doesn't sound like a bad idea at all.
As far as the OpenOffice project goes, I can't wait to play with this a bit on my Mac,. I used StarOffice for awhile but hated the way it took over my desktop...now that OpenOffice removed that "feature" I'm sure it rocks. Good work! and thank you to all the people putting time into this.
Actually you can purchase a card from OWC that allows you to remove your cpu from your original card and place it and another you purchase onto it to get you a dual processor system.
Even at 10 stages the G5 is a far more efficient design then the 20 stage P4's and again should be able to get much more work done than a P4 at lower Mhz.
This is a stupid argument....if you REALLY NEED a floppy for a Mac then purchase an external one. Apple doesn't include them because for the most part people don't use them much anymore. As for burning a 100k file to CD to give to someone? Why not use a CD? Macs burn from the desktop, no need for additional hardware. They mount a CD R/RW like a floppy. Just drag and drop and done just as easy and more convenient if the files are over 1.44MB not to have to worry about it.
The thing is EVERY Mac sold by Apple is high end in quality when compared to a PC no matter what the clock speed...hell the iMac has more quality than high end PC's and it's the consumer model. I've owned PC's, I buy, administer and support them today for my office and no matter what brand you get Compaq, Dell, Gateway, HP they are crap....unless of course you talk about something like a Falcon in which case well your gonna pay 2k+ for a low end and 5k for a high end.
If you want a nice system for a PC that is high end you'd better fork over more than 2K.....I mean come on...take a look at the quality of case design even.....and no I'm not talking about looks....I can't tell you the last time I accidentally hit my Mac (actually bumped is what happened) and nearly tore a piece of the case off.....no that happened with a dear old Dell. PC's are constructed as throw aways and that is what they are...not so with a Mac.
