With a very clever regular expression:)
Really though, it should have been *ix, for O/S developed from the Posix standard. Or some other humourous global moniker. Another ask slaskdot post!
"Oh, and I hear some linux nerd in the crowd shouting, "*Nix" means "any unix-like operating system!". No, it doesn't."
erm... yeah it does:)
Unix, Minix, Multics, Linux, AIX, IRIX, BSD, Solaris(!)... loads of people I know use the term, and i think it's a great way of referring to anything based on the Posix standard....
how in the hell is that offtopic and flamebait?? it was actually a legitimate question, not a tacky attempt at a joke. Aircraft at that speed have grave safety implications, which is what I was attempting to put across...
Because I'm an evil Windows Admin who is very happy with SQL Server, warts n all.
When I have used databases on Linux, they've been Oracle, and that was purely to do a comparison to SQL Server. Horrible interface... eww... worse than DB2....
And watch the flames roll in...:)
So what makes postgres so great? All programs have holes, and the ones that claim they don't are lying.
Come on people, open source holes have overtaken Microsoft's now, but this is a good thing. If they're being found they're being closed. This ism a good thing for the community at large.
What i would really love is a grub/lilo etc style boot loader, so that i can pick on boot rather than having to change it back and forth in my preferences. And bet there is one too, I just haven't opened my eyes wide enough (or my search engine....)
I'd rather see it sold/iquidated than crash and burn. Good go though, in what is rapdily moving out a niche market, it's good to see companies actually present themselves as viable corporate entities, even if they couldn't take on the big boys:(
When this can mimic my NT PDC in a stable manner, NT is gone... this feature was a long time coming, and will be nice to see it pushed, rather than the standard "samba makes a great file/print server".
For *nix to succeed in the enterprise, it needs to do *all* the enterprise level things, without resorting to one vendor solutions such as Enterprise Server.
I'd be happy to pay for *good quality* versions of records that are no longer available, such as songs from soundtracks from one hit wonder bands, etc. I've had a lot of trouble finding these, even on kazaa napster winmx, etc, and even those that i find are poor vinyl rips.
I think promotion of back catalogue is the best way forward here. eg. Shania Twain's first albums. Can you get those anywhere? Not in the UK...
to be honest, it sticks on most of my Wintel platforms. It reminds me of what is happening with the iPod, it's being turned into bloatware rather than sticking to the nice, slick, browser that i loved - it's in early phases.
If the first one's bust, how's a second going to help?:)
Although i must admit that redundancy is a wonderful thing for servers, power supplies, etc, but for infrastructure?? Having identical copies of routers kicking around is extremely useful, but cost effectiveness comes into play. If you can afford it, I can't argue with the logic.
unfortunately, these posts will get modded as trolls or flamebait, whereas theose posts with "screw M$" get modded as funny, or insightful.
As far as I'm concerned, there is an issue, it's been dealt with. Those that need to know about it, ie. those IIS admins, etc. will already be doing something about it.
Just a shame the rest of the online community feels the need to jump up and down about it.

hardly suprising though... imagine the impact that a jet at that speed would have... anyone care do the maths? :p
we can use laptops, but not mobile phones, CD players, etc?
What gives?
Great idea, but bizarre....
