Too right. A good mix and both parties win. Sun systems running OSX server, sounds like a good move. I always thought that Apple should buy Silicon Graphics , now that would be a smart move. I always liked Irix. The sun thing would give Apple the Java angle.

iTunes FREE !!! Well thats interesting isn't it. How long will it remain free for Apple users ? Does Steve like to port software to Wintel ? I think the main reason is the music service. Changing the world also means making money and the music one just might do it. Its a nice interface (iTunes,Music stores) - Why shouldnt it be a success on ALL platforms, since WE LIKE OPEN SOURCE then when do we expect the service to be Linuxed ?

I have a 12 month old TiBook and noticed yesterday that the rear casing under the screen, about where the sound mute key is has cracked. I cannot remember it dropping and I treat it like a 2 week old baby. I'm thinking about how it could have happened. It gets pretty hot too but I doubt if Titanium would crack so easily ! Are these iBooks as tough as they should be ?

Gosh the word Zen on slashdot.
Well the point is there isnt one and whilst Zen and the art of... may not be the best book on Zen it brings across the point. It's choice . The choice and freedom to realize form and beauty , that zen defies explanation due its inherent rules of silent observation is perhaps why ives struggles to put into words his feelings. People are free to consider the boxes from Gateway as mere tools or the GUI as a mere workspace . Apple did not , neither did Beos , Microsoft didn't care --- I do . The desktop is an extnsion of my creative nature and why should it be dull . Apple then extended this to the actual computer and the iMac was born. The latest edition will be sitting on my desk as soon as I can afford it......

To discover about who helped who check out jef Raskin or bruce horn . Apple needed Apps to run on the Mac , they unwisely chose Microsoft .Microsoft wanted to produce an application suite and did so by ripping off Apple stuff (Apple actually gave them somed stuff and support). Had Apple have been able to do it themselves then a mac without Microsoft apps would have appeared. Win3.1 was not an operating system though and until 95 came out I guess Apple could not complain. My gripe is that Microsoft copied and copied badly , very badly. I dont really see any advantages for an 86 version of OSX . With Apple you really do turn the box on , connect to the net , print and scan and so without DLL's and drivers (all hidden) I wouldnt see Bill as an advisor either. Normally evolution takes care of the bad products but other factors pushed an inferior GUI into the mainstream not the technical ability. Apples error was not to have Jobs and hence NeXT . A mac with a UNIX base in the early 90's.

In fact, I'm sure at least a couple of the engineers who squeezed all that stuff into that little machine had spent a weekend or two wrestling with a built from scratch box. Not that it's for everyone, but don't insinuate that it's a worthless way to spend one's time I dont think anyone assumes that the insides are put together , tinkered with and all that goes into thi iMac is performed by people spending there time in an unworthy way . However these engineers are NOT THE TARGET group
