Yeah I look at these and am just kinda meh. It could be better but I dunno they don't seem any prettier/uglier than any of the previous iterations of icons. Yeah the whole flat thing is annoying but I find it more so now for the mixed mode I have to work with in win7 and office 2013 where half the things look flat half the things don't and it isn't like there wont be themes to apply and change it all up anyway for those who want to do that.
There are no 'freeloaders' in the sense that it is a totally open hotspot. You have to have an account with Comcrap and sign in with that. So it is still paying customers only.
In a way I can see where this is nice but then I can see where it can lead to oh IP used ad house X was downloading Ke$ha music (or worse) and you have no
gah, nice loss of train of though there self. you have no way to know if the resident or some free loader did it.
I can buy one every year and it still comes out cheaper than renting from Comcast. Also the modem does not have wifi built in, it connects to my router and that takes care of things. In a way I can see where this is nice but then I can see where it can lead to oh IP used ad house X was downloading Ke$ha music (or worse) and you have no
I hate this everything can be in the 'cloud' well no not everything can or should be as seen by todays lack of productivity for users who can't authenticate with Adobe.
And this ladies and gentlemen is why BYOD in more than a few types of work place is phenomenally fucking stupid idea. Oh I need to take this back now, let me undo the network things... oh the company data, i guess thats okay for now...
Yes this! And there are a lot of adults out there that were above the vaccination age yet and those of us that are just old enough that what we got vaccinated with may not be in the immune system memory anymore. If there is one group of people I very literally want to hit with a real clue by four it is the antivax crazies cause they are killing not only their own children but others who either are too young yet or they are the small amount that the vaccine didn't work on but should have been okay due to herd immunity.
Yes this quite a bit, tried on a Steam free weekend and then paid the $4 and change sale price to get the game and all DLC. Now I am a little sad I didn't splurge and get the 4 pack and give it away to friends.
Yes this, after a month of 'You singed up for information' from various who knows what that I didn't sign up for. When I pressed for info it sounded like someone with a throwaway email was scamming for something or just being a dick. We gave up the land line. Hell for less than the land line cost alone I get more minutes than I generally use and caller id, and voice mail, and unlimited text, etc and 98% of the landline calls were robocalls of some sort or weekly messages from the school. It wasn't worth keeping and Qwest wondered why I didn't want to keep paying $40 a month for that.
Yeah where I work it would be a big umm good luck with that cause you don't have the desk space for all of us to begin with, which is why we got pushed to telecommute in the first place and now after getting outsourced (I still do the same job just different employer on the paycheck, and hey I can actually say no not in the contract fix your own code now as well) we are now not just scattered across several sites/counties in one state but scattered across the U.S. so even if we end up with a desk 'on site' somewhere I am still not going to actually see any of my direct coworkers.
Thanks to my current work position I am out of on call rotation, so other than the odd big outage or emergency (well customer needs it yesterday) server build I rarely put much extra time *knock wood*. But due to long ago lack of desk space the company decided to push server admins in to telecommuting cause a cable internet is cheaper than desk space. Not that they pay for it anymore and there is still no permanent desk space but it is cheaper than gas on the 40 mile round trip if I had to drive it every day. My biggest problem is remembering to get out every day for a walk or something, while I am good at locking the work machine/setting away at quitting time sometimes it is a yeah still the same old walls I have been looking at all day stir crazy that really gets to me.
Yes THIS! Reading the summary I was thinking wait just about all commodity hardware is made in bloody China right now. How is singling out lenovo going to stop anything?
Or maybe it is because I work at place with SOX/HIPAA/DOD/etc requirements. Even though I am vendor I have to use the customer supplied device as I admin their servers and thats what security will allow for me to do my work. I don't have admin rights on the supplied laptop itself and everything is whitelisted to run. Every time I hear about this at least from my side of the fence of IT support I just think of the support and security nightmares. Also if the company wants me to install their stuff on my personal pc. well they can buy me one. Same goes for a phone. They need to call me as an employee they can provide a cell phone too.
I would be nice to leave comcrud but it looks like I am just shy of the coverage. I think this is awesome though. Even if I end up moving out of the area by the time it gets more coverage this really should be public utility.
You only get the advertised sale price if you use their "club card" which has your personal identifying information plus now your spending habits, etc.
You could do what I do, find one on the street and use it. Oh sure I don't get the gas bonus from QFC but they get crap for their data. Also a lot of cashiers are happy to hand you a card and throw away the information sheet. So yes you get tracked but as anonymous coward basically.
Or they do what the did to me, Hey you used your credit card with us to buy some gas at a place near work instead of home and that is suspicious so we are locking your account. Can't dispute, can't close it. It is here forever locked down till your grandkids die (or paypal dies whichever comes first). At least I didn't actually have any funds in it. I hope they die soon.
There's a reason wristwatches supplanted pocket ones.
Fashion trends are cyclical. After enough years, everything old is new again.
Fashion has more to do with men wearing wrist watches in general, they were considered too feminine till WWI when the watches worn by the pilots caught on. I honesty have been considering a pocket watch to replace my 10+ year old Fossil. We don't think too much about it as we grew up with it being normal.
Heck privacy shield, vpn, NO DO NOT LOOK OVER MY SHOULDER AT MY SCREEN, etc are all basic telecommute rules for my day job. So yeah I guess if I have to check something and use the work laptop to do it when I am out and using the library/starbucks/whatever I guess I am a terrorist.
Exactly, There are expert level players from various Asian countries who have a basic grasp of english but they sure know what is and is not a valid string of letters to play.
I used to play in tournaments and even have been to the open National tourney but was never that good. My wife is good but she doesn't like tournaments anymore but she can make the letters just dance in her head in half a second for what will take me 15 seconds of shuffling the tiles around on the rack. At that level the definition is just extra stuff that isn't relevant to the game.
Doc even though there were a few comic books is more of a Pulp Hero. It amazes me that a lot of the fantastic gadgets and such in those stories are now commonplace technology.
The only thing driving my want for a new laptop is a better graphics card for a few games that overall I can actually wait till this one dies to purchase and play. But I have had it 3.5 years now and it chugs along just fine probably because it mostly stays in the same place but I do take it out on occasion so the semi portability of the 17" monster that it is comes in handy. (I really really like screen real estate) And even when it is time to replace it I am sure I will give it a once over and maybe throw a new drive in it put linux on it and let the kid have it to replace the hand me down desktop he is currently using.
My mp3 player is the same age and will probably last even longer as I have one with a user replaceable battery and barring out and out losing it or breaking it I can't see a reason to replace it with a new one just for the shiny factor as it does what I want an mp3 player to do. Heck my wife only replaced her gen1 ipod nano because she lost it though it really was due for a new battery and that probably would have been as much as the replacement she bought.
I don't know I can just think of other stuff to spend my $$$ on than gadgets I don't actually need.
I won't. Their selection sucked when they were pretty much my only choice at the time. They sucked even worse about 6 years ago the last time I had a chance to check them out. Happily I have lived near enough to Scarecrow video for rentals and they have damn near everything. At least there has not been anything unavailable yet that was to be had on media. Scarecrow is the reason I have not gone to netflix. Screw em. I won't miss them.
Believe him. I no longer play in tournaments and was never all that good. But that is exactly what all expert players do. Make various word lists and memorize them.
At that level it is a math game not a word game. There are Thai expert players that have a very basic grasp of English but know for sure the string of letters ANTSIER is a valid play. Definitions do not matter as they clutter the brain space needed to know the word itself.
Allowing proper names. I dunno. The word list is disgustingly long as it is and there could be trademark/copyright/something issues in using stuff like FACEBOOK as an allowable play outside of the kitchen table.
Of course I do have double screens at work, something every IT person should have - if only to minimize costs.
The number one factor in my not needing to print out a instruction sheet, reference document, trouble ticket, etc was getting the extra monitor. Document on one monitor, work area on the other.
I used to print out a lot of stuff that I had to refer to while setting things up or trouble shooting before then. Now I can count on one hand the number of documents I have to print out in a 6 month period and most of those are to help me track down the correct server when I am physically in the data center.

Hell half of my high school teachers would have been fucking well expelled as well.
