Let's call it 90% of the world uses Windows, and only 10% of those are somethin akin to an expert.. oh how dread! How completely improbable! I mean, if i drove a car, and i do, i should know how to, say.. pick it down and put it back up again, part out my engine, manufacture a tyre... oh please. Only the truly ignorant would expect that everyone knows the inner workings of everything they use, even daily. We watch tv everyday, doesnt mean we could all repair one, or have even seen the inside of our tvs. We use cell phones everyday, does that mean we should know, say, Symbian inside and out? It is a tool. Most of us use the tools and dont delve. I may not be one of those ppl but i am not pompous enough to assume that everyone should be like me.
What matters is nobody knows about alternatives, and nobody cares.
There are some, perhaps even most, who dont know and/or dont care. But speaking as one of us who does know, employ the stuck on a desert w. one choice scenario... itd be Windows. Not because its so secure or anything, heck no, but because i like choice. Same reason ive bought Sony consoles first and foremost, the most games. But in fact, id use whatever it took to best get the job done, much like the console. If Madden looks better on cube or xbx, then well PS2.. sux to you. But if there is negligible difference, well, the default platform is prolly goin to be that most popular one. But if u like wonderin if i can use this program or this piece of hardware, go rite on ahead. Im sure ur representative of the pop'n....
...to keep up with the Johns.
Ah, so youre still using red hat 7? mac os 8?
...every "law obedient, god fearing taxpayer" should - buy Vista, that is.
im neither god fearing nor particularly law abiding, but if im goin to use Vista, im goin to pay for it, or not bitch if i get carted off to jail. u know what the stakes are. if jail were my biggest concern, id stick to freeware, which is exactly what i do (and why im not plannin an upgrade anytime soon.) (wo)man up, already!
...software vendors, especially bigger ones, will be 'convinced' by Microsoft to develop Vista-only stuff.
As history proves, big software vendors hate backwards compatibility, especially 1 OS update away. i mean, jus look how they shunned win2k for xp....
It helps that if youre going to be snide, be factual- derision w. holes begets derision. Empassioned cries are best left for blogs.
Kevin, u make an excellent point, which i take in conjunction w. revlayle's opinion on market visibility.
A screen is not one of those things, yet, where i need every feature packed into 1 item,, i.e. i have a 15" LCD screen in my room, because a) i need the space, and 2) i limit my resolution - ive an allergy to light and (therefore) bad eyes.. think of it as forced health insurance:P Perhaps this is why i am willing to play a scant number of games on my PC, or maybe its jus that i prefer a comfortable, sprawled, gaming position w. a 32" tv set, that happens to be hooked to my PS2. The thing is, that tv, which serves both my games and my extensive tv/movie addiction has no HDTV cability, which is just fine. All of my games are served well by it, i get (98.8% of) all programming on HDTV channels, and there is no fine print i absolutely must read, besides, yano, people trying to sell me stuff. But if i were to buy another one in the near future, it would have HDTV, not because i wanted to add the handful of channels (1.2% of programming) to my viewing; not because ive fallen in love w. a PS3 (though were shackin' up); and not because ive fallen pray to Walmart subliminal suggestion. I will because, by that time, that mind-numbing, work-defying flat screen that i plan to put on my wall better damn well have every trinket they can currently think of. But im not the usual schmoe. Gaming is proving a lucrative market in which big buckets are shelled out by gamers to accessorize, color-coordinate and theme their consoles. Walmart does the greatest retail, and their customers are oft influenced by the unsubtle market pushes of certain items -admit it, were switchin over to those energy saving bulbs since Walmart "went green". So if the walmart is pushing the HDTV driven games, curiously, right next to section with HDTV sets, then we know, HDTV is really in.
Guitar Hero - has recently joined my list of comfort games. I went on somewhat of a gaming hiatus, but the thing that got me goin again was catchin a glimpse of GH 2 in stores.
Tetris - Now thats as classic console as i care to go, and go happily....so ill see those two, but ill raise you...
Need For Speed Underground 1 - yeah, so i have them all, but call me nostalgic for the first one; it has jus the rite level of adorably fun and pathetic - compared to now - graphics that makes it engrossing
Escape from Monkey Island - "we'll surely avoid scurvy if we all eat an orange"...enough said. i _am_ the swordmaster!!!
Silent Scope 2 (arcade) - When youre concentratin, peerin through that slim sniper scope, nothin, but nothin bothers u. Unless, of course, some overactive MK (2) junkie next to you bumps ur arm during a fatality happy dance. Then, you wish that rifle were real and detachable for abt 2 secs before realizin..hey..ure playin Subzero? Goodonya, man! He barely jus missed my top 5.. i approve. But that 2sec bonding session is over, because this girl was in the middle of a headshot....
One could make a sociological survey out of the fact that the AIM icon was instantly recognized, while the ZA meter was so easily missed. What does that say about the person who posted this image? Non-PC user? Non technical user? Furthermore, what does that say about us to whom the image was so immediately obvious?
Ignorance certainly is the keyword, here.
