  1. Zombies on Linux Distro turns PCs into Night-time Clusters · · Score: 1

This sounds exactly like what those windows boxes get turned into when it turns into a spam zombie. Or maybe this is what the next level of spam zombie will look like. It boots itself! It runs without a physical operator! It loads its own OS! It does stuff when you're not there!

  3. I just had a week of training with the author... on Learning PHP 5 · · Score: 2, Interesting

... At Big Nerd Ranch, and it was awesome. If you like the book and you want more personal training, they're talking about doing this PHP5 bootcamp again in about 5 months. It's held at a fantastic retreat setting in georgia, so it's fairly free from distraction. If you've tried to find PHP training, you know this is an unserviced market largely, so if/when they offer this class again, jump on it fast.

I've been about 3 years into self-taught programming with books, open source examples, and trial and lots of errors up until a couple of weeks ago. Now I've got a pretty good grasp on the mechanics of object oriented programming in PHP5, Pear, and the new XML stuff. David Sklar does a great job at teaching the concepts and practical implementation of the concepts.

I was fortunate enough to be able to migrate my customer facing server to php5 a couple of days ago, so I'm able to benefit from all the new stuff I learned just over a week ago. It's been very cool.

  9. What songs? on Record Labels Push for iTunes Price Hike · · Score: 1
I just checked 12 of the newly added albums in iTunes, several from the big 5... None of them have song prices of over $0.99. What the hell is everyone complaining about? It's rumor at this point.

Hey if Mariah Carey wants to charge $1.25 for her crappy song, and Mr. Scruff wants to charge $0.99, well, I'm gonna go buy that Mr. Scruff track.

I think it's insane to assume that every artist is going to want to slow down the uptake rate of people using this new distribution mechanism by raising the price. Maybe the big 5 will raise their prices, but... I seriously doubt Apple will make everyone else do the same thing.

They'll more likely move to a Cafepress.com model where there's an overhead price, and you can charge whatever above the overhead. If you want to sell stuff cheap, you might sell more. If you're greedy, you might drive away business.

Oh, yes. Now I understand. Way to be crystal clear there. I know the formula, (submit well written story with exacting details that clearly illustrate the point minus "well written" and minus "with exacting deatils that clearly illustrate the point"), and yet... I keep taking the bait.
