I just got a 770 (the UK version) two weeks ago. And the main reason I went for the Sony, is exactly the thing that most people won't like: the memory stick. I already own a Sony digital camera, and my work laptop is Sony Viao. When faced with the choice of a Palm or another PDA, running the same OS but supporting my existing portable storage, there was really no choice, it just made sense to be able to move mp3's, images, and movies easily between these devices (even though the movie player is so bad it's almost unusable)
I expect that Sony invented the memory stick specifically for suckers like me. Once I had one device using (semi?)proprietary technology, I had to continue buying the same brand.
PS. Travelling (and commuting) lots, I must admit to loving the MP3 player - and it will be even better once a (the next?) version of Palm OS is released allowing me to listen to MP3's and use other apps at the same time.
