  1. No. on 220-mph Solar-Powered Train Proposed In Arizona · · Score: 2, Insightful

That is not correct. Amtrak does not service Phoenix at all. Take a look at their route map. The closest Amtrak station is 35 miles south of downtown Phoenix in Maricopa.

  2. Re:More to this story? on Financial Responsibility == Terrorism? · · Score: 1

Speeding ticket surveillance is no longer random on a large stretch of freeway in Scottsdale, Arizona. There are now cameras with constant surveillance. Drive over the speed limit and you WILL get a ticket.

  3. Good. on Music Biz Predicts 6% Decline in '03 · · Score: 3, Insightful

The more the major labels have to downsize and consolidate the more that specialized independent labels will be accessible to the mainstream.

I hear a lot of stuff like "boycott the RIAA - stop buying CD's" on slashdot. What about labels that are unaffiliated with the RIAA? Almost all of the music I have bought in the last 10 years is from independent labels - not only because I don't like the business practices of the major labels but because the music on independent labels is BETTER. Smaller labels are generally interested in good music over money (there's not really much money in it).

Of course this is a pretty wide generalization - there's a lot of shit on independent labels too. But almost everything I hear on the radio is shit.

"How can I find music without major labels shoving it down my throat", you ask? Read reviews! Try www.pitchforkmedia.com. There's a shitload there. Then download a couple tracks of something that sounds interesting off Limewire or whatever and see if you like it. If you do, go buy it.

Anyway, the point of this rant: The major labels loosing money and downsizing will not make it any harder to hear music - smaller labels will fill any void that appears. And that is good.

  4. Record stores. on Discovering New Music? · · Score: 1

Go to a good record store in your area. If your lucky enough to have a store that specializes in the types of music you like (like I am - Stinkweeds, in Tempe, AZ) they will overload you with good recomendations.

Hodges` hand was still smoking when I started the sketch, I hurried somewhat, as he was pleading to go to the horse doctor.
He had a horse for an assistant?

  7. Umm....coffee? on Gaming Fuel: 4-way Shootout · · Score: 1

Why do geeks always drink soda? Coffee has -way- more caffine and it tastes yummy.

  8. Re:Maybe Code Red wasn't as bad as predicted... on Viruses: More Hype than Danger? · · Score: 1

I spent a lot of time fixing friends and parents cisco 675 routers during and after Code Red. Qwest was so bogged down by tech support calls that they actually refused to help people for the first month. Two months later Qwest sold it's residential dsl isp service to Microsoft because they couldn't handle it. Maybe Code Red didn't "cripple the internet" but it sure caused some headaches.

  9. Future of Musicians on Where Music Will Come From · · Score: 1

One thing that cannot be downloaded is the experience of being at a live performance. A musician or group of musicians that can actually perform music live will always have this as an economic option.

A group of musicians that can provide a unique experience at each show don't need to sell albums.

    Just concert tickets.
