Does anyone actually use the 100 euro?
Isn't it a bit impractical as payment? For instance, I live in Sweden. 100 euro is about 1000 sek. I never use the swedish 1000 sek bill - it is simply a bit to large (if I buy expensive thing, I use my VISA) and you can't get it in the ATM.
Can you get a 100 euro bill in the ATM?
I am afraid that you are preaching for the wrong folks. We all know that - the problem is that our politicians is stupid enough to not know that. They take their advice from the lobbyist that is paid by the american IT-firms..
I would like to comment on some things in this thread:
1) AJ ISN'T an new agency in Iraq. It lies in Quatar and if some of the posters here don't know the difference, by a map.
2) Since AJ isn't a new agency in Iraq, saying that listening to AJ should have been as useful as listening to German radio during WWII is dead wrong. A more correct comparison would be to say that it would have been as listening to Swiss raido or any other neutral nations radio broadcasts during WWII. You americans have to understand that AJ!=Iraq regime.
3) AJ publish much that americans find very offending and biased. However, CNN publish much that arbic people find offensive and biased. Americans should learn that you don't have a monopoly on truth - different culture think different and has different belives.
Many americans seams to belive that US news services give the truth and that Al-Jazera and others lie since their truth don't match your truth. This is of course wrong - all media is biased. By having two sources to compare you simply get a better picture.
I don't understand some part of this: Is SCO claiming that Linux is using one of its patents or are they claiming that Linux use some of their copyrighted material?
Second - if they are claiming that Linux use some of ther copyrighted material, can't this simply be lifted out of the kernel?
Third - if they claim patent violation, does this affect us Europeans at all? Can't we simply kidnap Linus back to Finland and continue without americans?
Actually, she isn't a parlament member - she is a member of the goverment (one of the ministers).

You don't understand how EU works - we don't need to vote for something for it to be passed.
Actually, the EU commission can make "directives" that is STRONGER than the memberstates CONSTITUTION whitout we being able to protest. And since the commission is as corrupt as U.S. senate we will simply not stand a chance. We will be runned over as we where with the software patent. Our only hope is probaly the french farmers (they always get their ideas throught of some reasons - probaly because the dump dung outside the EU commission) but I don't think they have any intrest in stopping this.

Could you please send us the adress of this country ASAP when you find it as many of us fear that this will have implications in other countries to... Perhaps we should all learn chinese or russian?
I have been thinking about one thing - what if we all went out singing RIAA protected songs on the streets without their permission and started to perform scenes from Disney movies? Would they sue us or would we be killed by the population for our bad performance of the material?
Perhaps we should show them, the media lobby, that there is more than one way to use copyrighted material, that you don't need to copy it to give it to others? Why not an illegal concert in front of the senate? I am sure this would piss them off...
Yes, sometimes you think that you are lucky that you live in Europe (as I also do).
However, the next day some corupt EU commission official steps up and, on a language you don't understand (they likes to talk french), tells you that we in Europe now will do the same thing as the americans.
So now we are waiting software patents despite we told EU we didn't wanted them - thus making the European patent office illegal act of handling out software patent legal (how nice - a clear violation of EU law - reward it with an change in the laws).
If US pass this law it will affect EU whitin 2 weeks. Who makes the processors? USA.
Who have the power to force this on us? United States of America. We are probaly forced to accept this law since we have trade agreement with them. Most of the copyright laws is international - we have 70 years of copyright after the creators death here to so that Mickey Mouse is protected - despite the fact that we don't really have any reasons to protect Mickey Mouse.
Personaly, I am sick of seeing the United States telling us how I should live our life without even having the decency to ask how we feel about it. I am sick of seeing my national parlament having less power than Disney over my life.
It is time for us europeans to take control over our own destiny and perhaps make Europe a better place. Maybe we will save the earth while we are at it to, despite US disregard of enviroment protection.
What are you talking about?
Where I live, in Europe, we hasn't had leaded fuel for over 10 years now. You can however still buy fuel with special mixtures inside them to act as the lead but it isn't lead. Besides, most cars uses chatalysators here too. I don't even think you can buy a car without one now (law).
Do you actually belive that Europe is less govern by corporate interest? Why do you think EU was invented? It sure wasn't for the citizens...
We will see this go through since no european politician have any common sense left.
You are comparing two fundamentaly different things - physical and non-physical products. If you travel by train you buy a physical product.
1. There is something lost in the transaction. If you copy a CD the record company don't have any cost for this. If you go by train you will cost the train company electricy and you will wear on the train. The cost is low but it is there.
2. Your friend will take up space on the train that could have been sold by the rail company and by doing this making it impossible for the railroad to sell this space. It is as if you would have taken my TV - I can't use it. What you do is that you deny the railroad to use their space as they feel fit.
Of course, you can argue that the rail company don't know about your tickets and still can sell their own tickets (and by this your ticket wont take their money). Your fake ticket will however inflict damage on the middle man that have bought the real ticket if your friend sit on thier legal bought seat.
The only problem with the Buick / Ferrari comparison is that perhaps you NEED the Ferrari in the digital world. It is a matter of compability.
For instance, if you need to create an Word file you really need to use Word to make this file perfectly compatible with Word. You can't use another software to make this file (I know you can almost do this but the conversion in other programs isn't perfect).
So a more sutible comparison would be to compare the Ferrari with a train. You can use the train for simular things as the Ferrari (transport) but you can't drive it on the road. With another word processor than Word you might have a functional transport device but it isn't working with the infrastructure that you need to use.
Why don't you americans simply enable people to arm themself with the type of guns that existed when the constitution was written?
This would mean that every american would be allowed to own and wear a musket. Such a weapon takes two minutes to reaload, is very unsecure when it comes to firing (will the powder work?), has a short range and is heavy to carry. I am sure your problems with guns would be limited with this intepretation.
