oh yeah, drinking less soda is going to help people lose weight. right.
I'm not suggesting banning soda is a good idea but consuming less calories will cause people to either lose weight faster or gain it slower.
Sorry to break this to you but a lot of Americans are fat, and I mean huge blubber mountain fat. Because of it they lead unhealthy lives and often end up taking all sorts of drugs. This guy wants to improve the situation, that's good, but his methods are wrong. I'd hold free exercise classes, give out exercise books, encourage people to look after themselves with positive messages.
This really is nanny government. I'm totally for encouraging people to lead more healthy lives but banning things doesn't seem the right way to do this. It would be better to sell people the benefits rather than punish them into submission.
How about free exercise classes, free yoga classes, advertising the benefits of losing a bit of weight or adding a bit of muscle instead? A few adverts featuring sexy girls/guys and a slogan about how they like fit guys/girls would likely be more effective and cheaper than banning sugary drinks.
That is the greatest problem I see in IT. Morons who screw up systems and cause outages get to look good when they fix their own messes at night or in the weekend. Competent people don't cause outages in the first place and don't get noticed.
What works for me is sending out emails to management every time I prevent some disaster. At least they know I exist and am doing something.
Don't resent people with MBAs; they perform an important role in understanding business -- especially finance and accounting. Also, do extensive homework on unemployed and underemployed MBAs before you think an MBA is a ticket to ride.
I've dealt with co-workers and Managers with MBAs and I don't resent them at all. However I do find them over confident and under skilled. It varies by person of course but a lot of them don't appear to learn anything except some schoolyard manipulation techniques and some small knowledge of tax law, yet they have enough confidence to tell everyone else what their view of 'common sense' is.
MBA's are just nonsense pretending to be an academic qualification.
Strange. I always saw CNN as pro-war, anti-middle east ( all of it ), and quick to oppose anyone who contradicted US government views on anything. To some extent it appeared to treat the rest of the world as a bunch of fools crying out for US help in every situation. I certainly didn't notice it being against Bush.
I gave up even trying to watch it as it appeared to be more a propaganda exercise than a news channel.
Exactly. A neutral article will be biased towards the position that is actually true. An article that treats all opinions equally is biased in favor of the positions that are untrue.
You are not taking into account Wikipedia's abject hatred of truth. It cares only about what has been reported elsewhere by publications that are also biased. See WP:TRUTH.
The two party bi-polarism has buried every other point of view in the US and it has pretty much killed the democratic process for years now. Nobody gets a fair vote in anything unless it can be represented as one extreme or the other. The system is rigged in such a way that this is unlikely to change and the media keeps dumbing down everything to the same two extremes.
A democratic system can't function with only the illusion of choice, you need more than just 2 viewpoints.
This whole thing appears to be Microsoft attempting to copy Apple's business model. It's always been Microsoft's standard practice to copy things that work from other companies because they don't really have the ability to innovate themselves. The thing is they are not apple and they will produce a twisted parody of Apple's walled garden and everyone will hate it.
Like you say, it's going to be a big pile of FAIL and hopefully it will reduce the amount of Windows and the resultant botnet and virus problems in the world.
I really hope not. It's long since time it died out. There are better things ready to replace everything windows is currently doing, in most cases at a fraction of the cost and with way better security. Windows only continues to exist due to inertia.
Fascists don't want money, they want power. Money will just turn up as offerings from servants. The fascist dream is an abhorrent crime with a heavy punishment that everyone is guilty of.
Anytime you don't seem subservient enough they lock you up for this crime whilst ignoring everyone else who did nothing to get their attention.
1984 called it 'thought-crime'. The UK government recently re-branded it 'terrorism' and removed the requirement to have any evidence whatsoever. Maybe they want to expand their list of criminals to everyone with a website.
Membership in the EU or the EEC is not the same thing as membership in the Euro (i.e. the currency). The UK is very much part of the EU despite not using the Euro.
And despite ignoring EU laws over and over again. Google prisoner voting rights.
Eh? The UK is a member of the EU. That's that. Being in the EU is one thing - membership in the EU. Once that's achieved, the country is a "full" member of the EU. I seriously don't know what you're on about.
The UK is in Europe, however it doesn't use the Euro and people in the UK consider Europe to be 'them', not 'us'.
The UK government happily breaks EU laws on stuff like DNA retention and tobacco imports every day. People take the UK government to the European court and win nearly every time yet the UK carries on ignoring EU law.
What did i say to you? Are You making a comment there is no difference between the Terrorist and our government? See the difference is our government doesn't TARGET civilians. Terrorist DO.
What about those dozen or so people the US army lined up in the targets of their guns and blew to bits in Baghdad? They were all civilians, two were Reuters staff, two were children.
oh yeah, drinking less soda is going to help people lose weight. right.

This is an autocratic nanny-state politician who's listening to a few lobbyists.
Why is lobbying for this move? The big food retailers would be lobbying against it.
Sounds like the guy is doing this for the right reason but like I said in another comment it's still the wrong thing to do.
You should be allowed free access to all the crap you want to eat. Just don't tell me you need it, because you don't.

Do you not squash bugs, or use a fly swatter, or use spray to kill wasps/hornets, or use ant traps?
I draw a distinction between killing and torturing.
Sticking an electrode into a creature and have it twitching to music is not funny, it's cruel.
Cruel and very, very gross. Yuck. Cockroaches.

I don't disagree with what you say but I would hate to be limited to only 2 fields of work. I love a bit of variety.
Maybe some people like only working in a couple of fields all day, every day. I would hate it.
And that is exactly the problem with any legal system based on case law. I'm not sure how to fix it though.
This patent abuse has gone too far. It's time to revoke all trivial patents as they are obstructing the innovation they were designed to help.
Exactly what I was trying to say, only you said it far better.
Now that should be modded up!

One guy may say that the sun is green, the other guy may say it's purple. Having both of them in the same article does not make it neutral.
The sun may well be green to one observer and purple to another depending on their movement relative to it. Look up red/blue shift.
I agree with what you are saying, just disagreeing with your example of it.
There are no other points of view.
How come that didn't get modded insightful?

When you enter a restaurant and place an order
No you don't. You do then when you ORDER your food.
Really? Let's read more slowly before we flame.
Entering the restaurant has nothing to do with it. Placing the order is the important bit.
That would probably mark me as a terrorist.
Didn't you see the news for the last few years? Under current UK laws everyone is a terrorist.

Of course we only know what was leaked, there are likely many more killings we don't know about. This shows a clear intent to murder civilians.
Yes our government wont bomb a flight that your family would be on.
What about Iran Air Flight 655 - 3 July 1988 ?
