We elected the politicians, we put them in office, we empowered them to look out for Corporations...
You might of. I don't get a vote in my home country or the country I live in.
Bet you think I'm either a convicted criminal or from a dodgy small African country. I've never have so much as a speeding ticket, I'm from the UK but live abroad.
Impressive but still by far not as good as an experienced human pilot.
Humans have annoying requirements like food, water, and sleep. You can't build experienced human pilots in a factory. Machines are easiler to replace and don't mind if you send them on suicide missions.
Also, it's a perfectly valid comparison to make they both serve the same purpose, you make it sound like I'm comparing bats to the 1937 Yankees which have essentially nothing in common.
No, So much no that the word 'No' doesn't even start to cover it. The only thing they have in common is that they are both made out of matter and at a very low level follow the laws of physics of this universe.
Don't get me wrong here, I'm not saying you are an idiot. I'm just that that you have a commonly held but very wrong idea.
Yes, the brain is analogous to a multicore processor
No. It's so different you can't even draw an analogy between them. Animal brains are neural sub-symbolic systems with nothing in common with von neumann architecture.
Open sores software == fail. Once again full of security holes that the "many eyes" failed to spot.
Unlike windows which never has remote crashes or remote execution of arbitary code problems. Tell me does microsoft.com still block ping? Why is that again?
Although we do know that if this was in a Microsoft product you wouldn't be making such an excuse.
No excuse. This is a disaster and I'm not excusing it. However it doesn't affect most people who setup their systems right. ISPs, DNS service providers, and anyone who has to let random strangers on their network may well be in trouble with this.
Of course if this was Microsoft it would no doubt be an easy remote execution of arbitary code but only crazy people trust windows with something as critical as DNS in the first place.
It's open source, and has had years to mature...so many eyes on it that this couldn't possibly happen.
We don't even know what is happening yet. Maybe it's just a DOS, maybe it's a potential exploit. What we do know is that no-one has any need to put recursive DNS servers on the internet unless they are running an ISP or a DNS service.
um just a point, he is British, and it is a British show. so yes he would have a British accent and he doesn't put it on for interviews he is in fact "putting on" a American accent the rest of the time.
British people don't actually talk like that. His accent is exaggerated to a crazy extent.
which is ironic considering this is coming from microsoft
It's coming from Microsoft Research. These are real researchers funded by Microsoft who do some really nice work.
The sad thing is the good work these people do ends up owned by Microsoft who rarely use it. Microsoft seem to be funding research just to make sure their competitors don't get hold of researchers.
Drivers are better on linux than windows now. You don't have to troll the net and agree to EULA's with weird conditions just to get decent hardware supported under linux.
Have you ever reinstalled windows on a laptop to get rid of all the bundled junk software? You spend the whole day downloading and installing drivers. With linux you get all the drivers with the kernel, it's way less time and hassle.
If by all day, you mean about an hour or two, then yes, I've done that. It's better than not having any support at all.
I normally find it takes longer than that just to find the stupid drivers. With ubuntu you already have the lot and you don't really have support in any case. If your wifi driver doesn't work you could not realisticly get anyone to solve your problem on any OS. The big companies just fob you off with first line BS until you give up and check internet forums instead.
So you have the choices: Windows - pay money and get hassle installing it and often have to check internet forums for answers. Linux - Free and get hassle only on new hardware.
Sadly I find it works most of the time, it gives weird errors that often mislead more than help and it still isn't totally stable. Unix based OS's are still more dependable and the error messages normally mean something too.
The hardware support is a pain on windows. Have you ever reinstalled windows on a laptop to get rid of all the bundled junk software? You spend the whole day downloading and installing drivers. With linux you get all the drivers with the kernel, it's way less time and hassle.
I use Ubuntu at home. I use Gentoo on a laptop but might change it to Ubuntu. I use CentOS, RHEL or Solaris on all but 2 servers at work. We need to test our software on windows so we need a couple of machines for that. Almost everyone at my work uses CentOS on their desktops. A few finance staff use windows because they need software that only runs on windows. Maybe it would run under wine, we never tried. Three stubbon office staff insist on windows not linux because they refuse to use anything new. Given the choice I'd fire them. If they won't learn anything new they are a liability to the company.
Windows has already lost as far as I'm concerned. The world is better off without it. Now if only I could buy laptops without paying for a windows license..
Or you could just filter or even tarpit their mail servers and forget about it. If you use free webmail just click the spam button on each mail and sooner or later they will get blocked.
I think there are a few companies like that. I get constant spam from a bunch of jokers calling themselves clubline football.
Since there hasn't been an "Ask Slashdot" that actually resulted in anything but a fucking e-penis flamefuckfest, how about you just eliminate the fucking thing altogether?
You mean there is more to slashdot than fucking e-penis flamefuckfests ?
People get all up in arms about punishment like this, but no one bats an eye at an overweight parent feeding their kids fast food for breakfast and a medium Sprite as the drink. And the kid already looks like the Michelin man. I don't get it.
Feeding a kid junk food on a regular basis is child abuse just like beating them is. I agree with your point. However neither should be OK and this judge deserves to be publicly ridiculed. Of course he won't be tried for it. What would be the point when his buddies will just dismiss the case?
What kind of person would want a job where they sit in judgement of fellow human beings? The kind of job where they can decide on a whim if the guilty will be locked up for 10 or 30 years. Those who crave power over others above all else. Psychopaths. No wonder so many of them are caught doing weird stuff like using penis pumps under their desks, or stalking women, or get accused of child molestation, or spanking defendants with sex toys.
I'd never heard of electric pet fences before. You Americans scare me.
Whos fault is this really?
We elected the politicians, we put them in office, we empowered them to look out for Corporations...

... using words like "misleading" and "unfair." It's fraud, plain and simple.
Of course you are right. However almost all marketing involves implying things that are not true.

Err what? You have this very wrong.
Maybe your 'self-modifying DNA' is malfunctioning.

No. It's so different you can't even draw an analogy between them. Animal brains are neural sub-symbolic systems with nothing in common with von neumann architecture.
Any comparison is utterly meaningless.

I didn't think there was any way to select the exit node with TOR. Is this possible?
Paper, pen or pencil and try real hard to understand what you are being told.
If you are trying to write everything down you are not trying to understand what you are being told.
This is the technological equivalent of donating AIDS infected blood.
Funny. But very, very sick.

"I understand why Microsoft is having to play catch up, ..."
Please. That's so '00's.
And strangely still true.
Have you considered taking them to court?

It won't get you off maillists. It will just generate backscatter spam.
It's easy for someone who gets one of these fake bounces to tell it's not a real MTA generated bounce.
This feature was removed from most mailers for a reason - it doesn't work.

F*****g judges, See all the problems they cause?

No. I can't come up with a better system.
