I brought the game the first day it came out and the first night playing it the machine crashed at least 8 times and the network play was non-existant.
I have a 2500+ barton oc to 3200+ with ati radeon 9500 pro. every game (including the new max payne 2) runs silky smooth.
I have other friends who got the game and the pattern of failures seem to center on the graphics card.
all my friends who have it running smooth (out of the box, no patches) are running some sort of nvidia card
all my friends who crash are running ati radeon cards.. even after two patches later we still have issues with slowness. I think that the port uses some features of the nvidia card that the ati radeon drivers don't support and it is slowing it down.
even after locking the refresh to 30 fps, it would still be unplayable at any resolution. I gave up and sold my copy to my friend for half the price
I picked up max payne 2 last night and running at max detail it runs like dream.. don't think it's so much a hardware issue or lack of processing power on my part.
I know they are afraid that if I know the exact order of the ballots casted, I can use that to collate back to who voted for whom.
But can't I just have a bucket inside the machine, a thermal printer that prints a 4x4" sheet of paper and when it comes out falls into the bucket and collect that instead?
There is then no way to figure anybody out and we still have a paper copy in case stuff like this happens, we can still do an old fashion "recount" if need be?
To pull their average turn around time on patches, they can release the patch BEFORE they do the announement, so they have a negative turn around time, that will really pull down their average

Apple has always been good at taking existing technology, make it easy/better/simpler and use their marketing skills to sell tons of them.
Sure you can always take a bunch programs and link them together to make something that functions the same, but it's never going to be simple to keep it up and you have to still find legal means to get music
Unlike other zealots, I don't "push" it on you.. you have to take the red pill willingly
the world is not black and white, you can use both or hate both OSs, until you have actually USED it for while can you really objectively form an opinion on WHY you would want it

I was a diehard PC user until I got my ibook. I use it as my main computer because of the ease of use, the user friendly programs that come in the box. I can do all my video editing and such on programs that are easy yet powerful compare to the PC.
Apple spends thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of hours and dollars developing a good case with matching intake and exhaust fans that direct SUFFICENT airflow to the perfectly matched heatsink and you think that your in your infinite PC wisdom you can replace them and make it better, then when it CRASHED, instead of blaming yourself you went back to try to get warranty work on it? and when they refused you tried to DEFRAUD them by putting it back to stock and trying to claim again? you know that in some states that is illegal (mail fraud). your so called "IMPROVE"ment blew up your machine.. you have nobody to blame but yourself guy
I brought my ibook and airport seperate and I had it install in the machine running in 5 minutes.
I assume you are like a regular "guy" and didn't read the manual. If you did then it tells you to take out the aerial cable BEFORE you install the card. blaming the machine for your lack of knowledge is low.
people who don't understand something general go back to what they are familiar with, it's like when people found out the world was round they refuse to believe it
it's it a fluke that apple won all sorts of design awards and accolades and you had to FILE and SNIP parts out?? you are obviously a troll

in the true slashdot fashion, you didn't read the faq:
Many of you have asked us to create ISO images for BeOS Installations. This article comes to clear out some misconceptions about BeOS Installations.
BeOS images are ISO images. But not ISO Images in the sense Windows sees them. Those ISO contain FAT32 or FAT16 compliant filesystems. ISO9660 compliant is a FAT32 system. BeOS uses BeFS which is a 64bit journaling filesystem that stores a lot of the file info in different places such as Attributes. If we where to create an installation of BeOS using a classic ISO image (one that can be read by IsoBuster) it wouldn't Install !!!! If you copied files out of it to BeOS, some of them would be useless.
Installation of BeOS requires BeFS Images. THAT'S IT.
And we won't fix it. It's not a bug, it's a feature.
NOTE: YOU CAN ASK THE COMPANIES THAT CREATE ISOBUSTER AND WINIMAGE TO SUPPORT BeFS.
The last time I checked, we left the compatible x86 chip world with the last pentium.
Starting with P2 and above we can no longer plug in AMD/Cyrix/etc chip into each other. How is that choice?
I love the AMD cpus (i have 5 desktops) but the chipset support don't compare to Intel's. What choice do I have? none. I can't get Intel chipset motherboards that support AMD and vice versa
Maybe SCO will sue them for patent infrigement, after all they probabily own the patent on "Probability", as in there is probabily copied UNIX code in Linux, or there is a small chance it would be enterprise ready such a short time.
The reasoning is that I had been tied (or in your chain of thought "trapped") in the microsoft OS world because I need to use their development tools (Visual Studio.NET). At work I have to use MS stuff, but at home I have a choice and I brought the ibook. I have not looked back since.
most \. lurkers are afraid to admit they use MS products, but I don't becuase it's the truth and it pays the bills.
It's been on the shelves here since Thursday Oct 16
I picked up mine with the free hat thingy

we run 9500 pro or 9700 pros here, no 9800 pro.. that's a very expensive card =)
i guess you have it lucky.. run good stright out of the box?

I have over 7 athlon pcs myself and have sold/assemble numerous others.
They all work without any problems. Can't say the same with my friend's P4. It runs hot and the 865PE motherboard is unstable.
