Just watch, LOTR, the musical, will be released in Germany under the title 'Das Rheingold'. I think most of the adaptation work has been done on the German version by some guy named Wagner.
Don't forget, the only reason why we have gone into space at all is because of the Russians (USSR). Space so far is a capitalistic loser. America and Russia have sunk so much money into it with only significant acedemic results to show for it. For the bean counters that isn't a good reason. Without the adversity of the cold war, I doubt we would really 'be there' at all.
Obviously the song is refering to Lords of 'Tae Kwan Leap'. I'm sure the lord of Tae Kwan Leap, master Ki-lo-knee, and his buddies cost a pretty penny for a personal appearance.
The earth's rotation length is never static. Even creating dams at high altitude displace weight and cause an effect on spin (imagine spinning and sticking your arms out) albeit slight amounts. Just be glad that this is rotation we are talking about and not revolution.
A fellow student from my horror days relate a story to me about a incident he witnessed during one of the after school hunt and destroy mission conducted by most of the 4th, 5th and 6th grade boys where I was the target. Apparently the message of 'We are going to beat up the nerd after school today' had reached the lower classes. While following the masses he noticed some 2nd grader pounding the daylights out of a 1st grader. He asked the kid what he was doing to which he replied, 'This is the nerd, isn't it?'
How ironic the the banner I get this morning on the slashdot site is for Microsoft SBS2000 preloaded on an HP. Which technically means the advertising for the XBox contest is funded by M$.
Man, they do have their hands in everything.
The real question should be, 'Is Windows ready for Joe Redneck'?
My friend works for a company that provides tech support for end-lusers with PC/Windows (In another life he was very, very bad). According to Joe Redneck and I quote "It don't werk."
So while it may or may not be ready for 'Joe Longkneck', it is definately NOT ready for Joe Redneck.
My friend told me about the situation around it's release. It was, in fact, a joke that was included by the engineers and was supposed to be removed before print. He said that when it was discovered by the bosses, they didn't think it was very funny. He was amazed that thirty years later it is still around and being talked about.
Some cities are rapidly deploying fiber throughout their neighborhoods. Spanish Fork and Provo City are some here locally.
The general idea is to lay down infrastructure for a general city purpose, like SCADA or links between city structures and schools. The communities have money to spend on these systems. Once they have 'properly deployed' the existing infrastructure, the unused bandwidth can be tapped to provide services. In most cases these cities have no interest in becoming an ISP but have no qualms about deploying infrastructure whereby competing ISPs may give highspeed access to their citizens.
The communities, however, did have one thing in common: citizens who made bandwidth and monopolistic practices of big ISPs an issue with the local governments.
Attend the tale of Grima Wormtongue,
His skin was pale and his eye odd,
He lusted after Eowyn.
And never thereafter was heard of again.
Grima Wormtongue, the cowardly advisor of Theoden!
Or who could forget (to the tune of 'Send in the Clowns'):
Isn't it bliss,
Are we a pair,
You standing there on the ground,
Me in despair.
I've fallen in the Dead Marshes.....

Having problems accessing the website due to the slashdot effect. Website doesn't seem to scale.

I think he feels that if he repeats his diatribe often enough that even he will begin to believe it.
The slashdot effect has now been confirmed to severly affect text-centric sites even on slow holiday weekends

IANAESL (I am not an e-bay suing lawyer) but....
Hey, I can see the apparent danger of putting a pacemaker on a 2.4GHz network and other microwave networks....but it isn't from 3li73 h4ck3r5.

Cool, he was actually able to get +50 MHz over traditional methods after all of that string and H2O.
Simply Amazing!!
I better get my insurance updated.
