I doubt it has an FPU... the die is 4mm^2 compared to the PPC750 which is 40mm^2. That's 100 times smaller than a G3. Not much room for anything but a basic PPC core. Still would make a great processor for a small handheld or portable game system. --
What you said about SDRAM is correct. But there are companies that will be producing DDR-SDRAM (Double Data Rate SDRAM) that can send signals up and down a cycle, effectively doubling the clock rate to 200-266MHz (depending on if they are using PC100 or PC133 chips). Benefits: * 64bit memory throughput to the system * Much lower latency than RAMBUS * Uses tested SDRAM technology * Can be easily implemented in cheaper systems * Has 2.1GBps max transfer rate compared to 1.6GBps on 800MHz RAMBUS * Still has headroom to grow --
Borg cubes are squares with sharp corners. Like PC cases... The iMac is lake the starship Enterprise, and the new G4 is like a Klingon bird of prey.;) --
Apple can't put pressure on Companies to not produce PPC systems. The can stop them from including Mac ROMs and installing the MacOS on it, though. They have the right to that. IBM makes PPC systems as does Motorola, Total Impact, Bull computers, Synergy Systems, etc. How would making a PPC system vs. an X86 or Alpha system running linux hurt Apple's bottom line? --
Where do you get your information? links? I have never heard this and I think you are talking out your ass. How does Apple have control over what Mot and IBM can sell? The only issue is they cannot sell CHRP systems with MacOS licenses. --
Uh, thanks alot Mrs. Krobopal! If you didn't notice, he always misspells words and I was only a joke, hence the ";)". Go back to grading your test papers...;P...having the gall to point out one insignifigant typo is just a bit asinine.
"Insignificant" is the work I think you meant.:P --
Interesting move on their part, especially given IBM's recent moves with the PowerPC designs.
But wasn't it possible before to make Sun compatable boxes? I think I've seen quite a few of them from asian makers. The same can be said for the PPC board but IBM just made it more readily available.
It'll make a big Black hole.

I think he meant post-script...

Well the army seems to be using macs now, so you'd probably be seeing a bomb icon...

Right on, I hate the french as much as the next American guy ;)

No one knows for sure what Transmeta is doing. We've heard talk about a super-processor.
They are making a translucent electric shaver for men and women in 4 fruity colors (no one likes orange). duh...

The Client version of MacOS X will be using Quartz. It will be based on Abobe's PDF technology and expected to be very powerful and fast.

plus Netscape on Windows is more stable and on Linux and MS Office kicks StarOffice's butt in all cathegories ( excpet the price)
Also, that MS Office grammar and spell-checker is a gem!

Hey guess the rumour I heard! You say Apple won't be around in 2 years, but Apple says YOU won't be around in 2 years! Any truth to these rumours?
--
...because CrackOS is so damned lame, slow, idiotic, and of piss poor design.
Just like your not so well thought out comment.
--
That's alot of speculation and pessimism about a processor we know almost nothing about.

There will be at least 2 makers of PPC motherboards. One company is Prophet. For more info on the open PPC mobo project, check out this link.

Thanks. I was just being lazy... ;)

Right. I remember seeing on IBMs PowerPC site some terms on using the PPC logo. /. should look into it. I think the site is here.

Um, those new graphics cards from nVidia are 256bit, not 256MB of VRAM. IIRC, they support up to 64MB of VRAM.

The funny thing is , the person who reported this is named "terrified".

BTW, that was a joke, hence the wink in ";P".

No one knows that. You may be surprised someday...

Heh, look who's talking....
