Thank you for injecting a little common sense into that "scenario".
The only real problem would be lightning damage to individual nodes, with a possible larger impact if it creates too much of a gap between remaining nodes (of course this would not be too much of a problem with dense enough coverage). Much of the lightning damage risk can be prevented by using some electrical common sense when installing the antennas.
Other than that, this idea rocks! How long before we see people setting up systems like these in their neighborhoods?
Every day, my dream of massive, decentralised, almost impenetrable to the ??AA networking comes closer to becoming a reality...:)
Yes, i've been screaming ideas just like yours for a while now.. a decentralised peer-to-peer network that would offer a large measure of protection from government/corporate intervention. Among other benefits.

Indeed it is. While I was simply trying to be funny, mormop posted a far more serious and insightful commentary outlining how ridiculous McBride's statement was.

Right now Darl is giving Mormons a bad name:(
Indeed. I got into an argument with some of my Mormon relatives from Utah at my family reunion this summer. Wasn't pretty. I don't know why they love SCO so much. I guess they just can't see the truth.
(And no, they do not and have not ever worked for SCO/Caldera afiak. But they have been following the case.)
At a more general level (and surprisingly for a Linux distributor), he found the entire free-software trend "communistic", he says: "We don't get the whole free-lunch thing."
Communistic? I'd like to show Darl McBourgeoise what communism is all about!
He thinks your concerns about the software patent directive are unfounded. He is certain (in his own mind) that the Directive will have no impact on software development, because it has "protections" to "prevent" "generic software patenting".
Basically, he is saying that he knows what is best for you and that you are full of crap. But, since he's a politician, he has to hide that under a mountain of words.
As a 'merican, I wish you the best of luck at saving your continent from the patent hell we have over here. You're going to need all the luck you can get, if this letter is any indication.
Your point is well taken. However, most conservatives will probably give him their approval through their vote next election time, simply because there won't be any other viable candidates, except for some other statist from the Dems who is still to be announced.
But socialism isn't the only enemy. Regardless of whether it's socialism, statism, or corporatism, the same elite still benefit. Sure, some in the group may benefit more than others under a given climate, but the group of them manages to adapt to any political climate and thrive.
Only with true freedom for everyone can that group's grip on all of us be broken. By that, I mean freedom for each and every individual, not freedom for some arbitrary "collective" (such as members of some political party or owners of a corporation).
Yes, but it was under the Bush administration's watch that they were let off the hook. Plus, I have a feeling that such mainstream "journalists" would conclude that freedom in the Linux sense is really "evil communism".
The GOP and conservatives frequently disappoint me when their actions do not match their principles.
Through all of the hysteria and shouting matches and FUD, count on Bruce Perens to come in and make sense of it all. This is very good news. Now, we only need to make damn sure that IBM's team of lawyers have managed to get this!
ATTENTION IBM LAWYERS! STOP READING THESE COMMENTS AND GO READ PERENS' ARTICLE!
Thank you for that story. I think we can all apreciate an account of someone who was in the area, and especially the "happy ending" at the datacenter.:)
I happen to like AM radio, though, when I can find something good on it. Sometimes I even catch 88 CBS down here in South Carolina. But then again, I'm not a ham, so my radio choices are kinda limited.:(
This article sums things up really well, a rareity in this age of FUD and spin. I've submitted it to Matt Drudge. SCO wants a media war? They're gonna get one!

Yeah, it is quite double edged. A summary:

The Infosoc directive sounds ominously like "Ingsoc", from Orwell's 1984.
Coincidence? I think not!
Yep... I just spotted this!

One more link I forgot... this I found on her site:

Your state at least one candidate I really like.

Georgina Russell, who is a software consultant, is running for governor in the recall race. I learned this thanks to this BBC article.
A quick google search found her campaign site here, along with a few Linux mailing list posts.
She appears to be one l33t Linux chick. She has even compiled test kernels before... Now I am all hot and bothered
Even though "Ahhhhnold" supposedly has this election already wrapped up, I can appreciate her efforts!
You raise an important point... where is the SEC in all of this?
Don't tell me they are too intimidated to take on SCO...
70 versions to anyone who can bring me the head of Darl McBride!
Hope this helps.
