  1. Satellites, nukes and the monkeyman. on Low-Budget Indian Satellite Launch · · Score: -1, Offtopic

I still find it hard to believe that India is this advanced. Not to mention the nuclear capability. For christ's sake they as a nation are freaking out because of the monkey man! attacking people.

Nothing against Indian's or anything. I know a few personally, they are great folks. But I think the technology base in India is a little overstated. Most indian tech workers I have worked with over the past 12 years are a typically well below average when the first get over here. Where as they were some sort of technological whiz-kid in India.

I would wonder what sort of redundant systems they had on this thing. What sort of emergency procedures they had in case of a failure which sent it of course or such. I would bet minimal if any.

I served on active duty for 7 years with the Navy and Marines. I was in Somalia when the shit hit the fan but guess what other than that two weeks of my life in the military... it was yes boring mundane stuff like posted above. My best friend from high school joined the navy to see the world and work on aircraft engines... he spent the first 6 months cleaning toilets on the USS Roosevelt.

People tend to think that the military is rought with action and excitement... Then they enlist.

  5. Geek to slob ratio?? on Workstations 'Dirtier Than Toilets' · · Score: 0

I would like to see a study done to figure out how many geeks are complete and total slobs. I typically refuse to work on stations that are sloppy and nasty. I also try to clean them every time I work on them.

I've been working professionally as an SA for almost 12 years. Some of the nastiest, dirtiest and most intelligent people I have ever met are computer scientists, software engineers, network guys (Especially Cisco guys??Why ??), etc...

I have seen chicken bones, half eaten sandwiches, milk cartons that contain some sort of lumpy semi-solid substance.

My personal favorite was a software engineer. He lived off of Oreo cookies and used to peel them apart when eating them. He typically did not eat the side with no filling and would create massive stacks next to his monitor. Once every few months he would clear it off.

It's not only food related either. In general, I have met more computer folks who have no idea what in the hell personal hygiene means. Bad teeth, bad smell, greasy hair, and are generally in bad physical shape. Hey walking to the vending machine to get the next pack of oreo's does not count as excercise.
