We did keep voting Ted Kennedy and Barney Frank into the senate, where they helped create the mortgage crisis.
How did they help create the mortgage crisis? Even if they can be accurately described as the single factors that are responsable for deregualtion, that means they simply stopped prohibiting risky and shady business practices. How is that 'helping to create' the mortgage crisis?
If I deregulate machine gun ownership, am I responsible for you opening fire on a bus full of nuns with one? I wasn't aware that not prohibiting a behavior was actually enabling it....
We did vote Barak Obama into the white house, believing that he would somehow SAVE us money by giving everyone government-funded health care
wait, what? who said anything about saving us anything on health care? I though the goal was just to get everyone health care. Saving might occur because of economies of scale and not having to subsidize uninsured people anymore, but I don't recall that being the goal.
I learned this in my concealed carry classes. My state has no legal provision for a property owner to post "no guns allowed" signs. They can post them but they have no force of law. All they can do is ask you to leave if they discover that you are armed -- you haven't actually broken any laws unless they ask you to leave and you decline to do so.
interesting. Could an owner post a 'no guns allowed - violators are unwelcome and considered trespassers" sign, and have anyone spotted with firearms summarily arrested, or does there have to be a specific request to leave?
Contrary to popular culture, most slaves in the US where fairly well taken care of. It was an enormous investment to purchase and maintain slaves, and the owner wouldn't risk that lightly.
Damn straight! Here in the states, we owns some of the best treated slaves in the world! USA #1! USA #1!
There is a simple fix for this problem: Someone with law enforcement access needs to log in, look up the numbers for some prominent politicians and CEOs, and start posting their locations on a public site. When we can watch the watchmen, they will restore proper checks and balances (require a warrant or similar).
I suspect that focusing the spotlight on the roaches at the top will send them scurrying for cover in rapid order.
At some point, someone will realize that there will be a high end vat meat market, and decide to clone panda butt for panda burgers... we will see squirrel steak (because animal size will become irrelevant), tiger paw on a stick, and dolphin mc nuggets. If it's odd, rare, and on an endangered species list you will be able get cloned versions of the meat. The problem will be that the few remaining animals out there will need to be caught and sampled in order to make it happen.
I can't imagine any decent human being simply standing there and watching while another human has a heart attack, no matter who they work for.
You called that one, I sure couldn't just stand there and watch. I mean, how often do you get a chance to kick a RIAA person WHILE they are having a heart attack?
Yes, I cant tell that the MS ninja assassin squad has been dispatched already. I just heard them running over our building's roof. I know they are the MS ninjas because they are the only ninjas in Redmond that wear giant clown shoes.
The thing that pisses me off is that these cops aren't policing anything, they're tax collecting.
Florida is one of 50 states yet hands out 15% of all traffic tickets.
They think they're doing good and generating revenue but they're hurting everyday innocent Americans.
Someone has to pay for their gas to go answer domestic violence calls. If you don't like paying tickets, stop driving. I have used mass transit for a decade now, and I haven't had a single problem with tickets...
Still, physics still stand: Use more energy than you get through food you _will_ lose weight
Agreed, I call bullshit on any conclusion that make the claim that exercise doesn't lead to weight loss . Show me a overweight Olympic level marathon runner, and I might believe it.
Microsoft is evil. Always has been. Always will be.
the Corporation of Microsoft behaves in an aberrant, selfish fashion. If there is GPL code that is being misused, it is not because "Microsoft is Evil', but more likely because they hired a contractor who lifted some open source code and though it would not get noticed. MS may be sociopathic and short sighted, but they are not going to as a official policy do something like this.
I have said it before here, Microsoft does some really stupid shit. Don't just assume that everything that looks bad is their fault though. That is just being lazy.
With all due respect to a man who is, frankly, one of the forefathers of modern gaming, saying that dedicated servers are an artifact of the past is just a blatantly stupid assertion to make. He should stick to coding and leave the design to someone who has some idea of what gamers want.
That didn't sound very respectful. I think that JC was implying that there is no technical reason for dedicated servers anymore. With the CPU/GPU horsepower available, there is no reason why you can't host a game and still get stellar framerates. I think you are reading things into his comments that aren't there.
...on Redbox, the operator of kiosks that rent movies for $1 per night, believing that Redbox's steeply discounted price undercuts DVD sales.
Stupid is as stupid does. If I am renting a movie, it's because I don't think its worth the paltry $12 it costs to purchase a DVD these days. You would think that a studio would know its market segments better than this. Actually, they do, because they know enough to price crappy movies at $4.99 and good ones at $20, so they aren't totally oblivious.
This is just a stupid stunt that won't have much effect on anything.
2. Lenin. "The more religious we kill the better."
Hmmm, to be fair, I think that was less about religious beliefs and more about simple power and control. The Bolsheviks weren't objecting so much to the church's beliefs as much as its power to influence large amounts of people. I would be more inclined to put stock in your suggestion if they had restricted their killing exclusively to religious people, as opposed to anyone they though could get in their way.
I think that if you look at a lot of the religious persecutions and killings done by non-religious groups, they aren't so much being done because the victims are religious but for other reasons. Even the holocaust was more about ethnic cleansing as opposed to the Nazis objecting to Jewish dogma.
Atheists may not have 'clean hands' as a whole, but the movement or concept of Athesim seems to be pretty much removed from mass genocides and such.
Does that mean I'm really an atheist? How will I resolve my disbelief of atheism with my atheism?
An Atheist is a 'A thieist', where a theist is someone who believes in a god. It seems plain to me that you need to found a movement of 'Aatheists'. Until you do this though, I refuse to believe you or that you don't believe in Athesim, making me an Aaatheist.
Chant some Rene Descartes mantras, and hope for the best.
To top it off, I have limited bandwidth, occasionally use metered bandwidth,
Who cares if they do this on desktops. Since you will typically connect through the same router, it would be trivial to configure the router to block all remote content from whatever servers they employ. You cannot realistically write the OS to stop functioning when an ad server cannot be contacted, as short outages or spotty connectivity would destroy any value of said OS. Just turn on all the 'stream me adds, I am a coporate whore' options on the box' to enable features and block it at the port.

And who owns "the man"?
"The wife"

I need to read posts more carefully, I just read
Show me where on the dolphin he touched you.
as
how me where the dolphin touched you.
I was afraid that I might have to start watching out for dolphin sapienophiles on teh intarwebz...
They're going to have to disclose them, sooner or later, if they want to use them as evidence.
they are probably afraid that if the people of chicago know where they are, they will get stolen....
just had an ugly thought...."Windows17 for PC (Personal Cloud)"
Yes, I cant tell that the MS ninja assassin squad has been dispatched already. I just heard them running over our building's roof. I know they are the MS ninjas because they are the only ninjas in Redmond that wear giant clown shoes.
You were in a long black tube in Bangor. The most memorable things were getting to feel a big vertical shaft and getting cream in your mouth?
All that homoerotic innuendo, and no reference to seamen? I am a little disappointed in you...
By the time that happens we won't have any money left to exploit them with and it will be the Saudi's pumping oil out of the Midwest.....
That's actually a good thing. The Midwest is closer than Iraq, so it will be easy to invade. The locals might even welcome us as liberators!

Yeah, think of all the new 'convoy' sequels that we will have to listen to on the radio...
*shudder*

I was completely and utterly shocked to see the disk go straight to the movie when popped-in.
...because nobody would pay to have their product associated with that film...
There is an interesting though: Corporations that misbehave get privatized by the government. That is awful good incentive for corporate restraint.

By that logic you should also convict atheists.
I think they do convict atheists that behave this way. Usually they are referred to as 'the Mob'.
