I am very sorry for his family that he died. But Tim Russert was just another corporate media tool. Check out this link for insight on his tilt to the right:
I hear this a lot, the part about if you can't contribute (and it usually means code, another tangent would be what constitutes contribution), then don't bitch or tell coders what to do. Okay, fair enough that coders do not have to listen. However, I am nearly fifty years old, and have been involved in the consumer movement since Ralph Nader's early days. I find it a nearly reprehensible attitude to takehat says users, consumers, etc. cannot offer valid critique or requests unless they actually contribute. I'm aware coding is not analogous to other fields entirely, but surely someone who dines at a restaurandoes not have to be a cook, nor participate in chef duties, in order to make known thier consumer wishes and complalints. Further, in reply to the, but this is FREE code, I belive that consumers have every right, and in fact, every DUTY, to vociferously make known thier views of products, free or not, in order to maintain a consistent improvement curve in them.
Harlan Ellison wrote a really marvelous speculative fiction tale about just this topic, so for his response to this, hunt up a copy of the short story "One Life, Furnished In Early Poverty."
I am posting to my own comment, as my recall has improved, and I believe the older cases involved workers at Marconi in the UK. Thank you for the opportunity to clarify this data.
Does anyone else have a vague (or better, clear) recollection of a similar reporting of odd deaths, by automobile accident and suicide (alleged), in the UK in the 1980's. As I recall, vaguely, in Britain in the eighties, a slew of scientists working for GE UK were found, in a reasonably suspicious span of time, to have died in automobile accidents, suicides, or 'suicide by automobile accident,' etc. etc.
I believe allegations were made they were working on some top secret or most secret electronics for Her Majesty, under the auspicies of GE UK. I do recall a couple of the suicide victim's surviving families were VERY dubious about these being suicides.
If you recall this, or better yet, if you have any online SOURCE materials for this, please email me as well as posting them? Thank you.
