Can anyone tell me if Apple iTunes offers discounts for complete album downloads? If they don't, then 99 Cents per song is a rip off if you want to buy an album. Many albums released today offer up to 18 tracks, so 18 dollars for an album? Considering that you are getting compressed sound files, which are not as good as an audio cd, as well as no artwork or booklet?

So to compete against rising piracy, the record industry and apple charges us more, for less, and everyone starts showering them with praise! Now thats genius!

I wasn't simply talking about my own experience with the game...when it first came out a lot of people had trouble running it smoothly, including those with high-end systems.

I haven't checked out some of the latest patches, but for such a popular game to cause so many problems straight out of box is disappointing...Glad to hear you got it running okay though, it is an awesome game when it isn't causing trouble...

Well, anyone remember some of Microsoft's first games for the PC, and how much they actually did suck? I can only remember Microsoft Basketball as one example...can anyone else remember any more?

  6. Re:Post your worst PC game nomination here. on Top Ten Shameful Games · · Score: 1
I have a couple of nominations for worst PC games ever...
    • Isle of the Dead - Long after I played this, I came across an interview with John Romero where he nominated this game as the worst Doom clone ever made, and he was right. In fact, Wolfenstein 3D played much better...clunky controls, bad graphics engine and terrible artwork. In fact, I want to play it again to amuse myself...

    • Terminator 2 - Judgement Day - One of my all time favorite movies spawned a horrible beast of a game, as most movies do I guess. I remember the hilarious Street Fighter style sections of the game, where the characters stiffly walked about, kicking and punching each other. I think you could do head butts as well...

    • Grand Theft Auto 3 - Example of how a game can suck based purely on the performance of the engine. Crashed repeatedly, incredibly slow performance when it did work, an example of an excellent console game ruined when ported over to the PC.

Haven't seen anyone list this one - The Computer King.Com. They've got a good selection of stuff, but as always you gotta shop around, different places have different deals. I agree with a lot of people here by also recommending Newegg as one of the best out there.

I also find that PriceGrabber is a good site for comparison shopping, I prefer it to Pricewatch when it comes to finding reputable dealers.

Don't forget the incredible satisfaction of building your own machine, and watching that baby turn on for the first time...(and die straight away if you have my luck).

Without a doubt, a relatively silent computer case is essential in creating a good HTPC, and it's a shame that this was not addressed in the guide. I've been doing a bit of research, and here is what I recommend (most of these components I have myself):
    • Enermax Whisper Series Power Supplies - Very quiet, and you can get models which allow you to manually adjust fan speeds.
    • Papst 80mm Case Fans - Easily the quietest case fans around
    • Seagate Barracuda IV - Hard drives generally produce a more high pitched "whine" than other components, but the Barracuda is again easily the most quiet HD you can get.
    • Thermaltake Volcano 7+ - Not the most quietest HSF you can get, but has manual adjustment of fan speed, and is one of the best performing HSF's out there.
I'm sure other people can contribute to this list - I'd definately like to hear some opinions and suggestions.

Don't forget, Microsoft is helping out AMD in developing their line of 64bit Hammer chips, which are destined for the desktop as well as the server later this year.

Seeing as this is the case, will Windows have an advantage when 64bit processors finally take off on the PC platform? Or is Unix too mature in this area for Windows to be a real threat?

According to The Register, Microsoft is designing the new Xbox 2 around an AMD processor. It seems that Microsoft is trying it's best to help AMD against Intel, as the interview with Jerry mentions Microsoft helping AMD out with their 64bit Processor. Any thoughts on this?

  12. Re:How fast do we really need to go? on 7 Years of 3D Graphics · · Score: 1

I believe the human eye can only perceive a max of 25 frames per second, hence the fact that movies run at around that speed. I've heard a lot of people say that 60 fps isn't smooth enough, perhaps it's not the visual smoothness that counts but the responsiveness of the game.
