deep sea trenches occur at the meeting of techtonic plates, that is what i was suggesting, for example off the coast of argentina... and anyway, i know there could be repercussions but the same thing could be said about a sneeze or whatever... imagine if 500m years ago a square metre of land was a fraction of a degree higher, what would life be like now? butterfly theory and all...
as selfish as this might seem, i think we should put humanity first and environments that have no direct and very little, if any, indirect effect upon the rest of the world, if properly encased it need not be a threat in any case, all youre doing is putting it out of reach of terrorists and the like. the ideal situation would be launching it away from earth deep into jupiters atmosphere, but a failed launch could be catastrophic... sinking it seems to be a more viable, safer option, im not saying its a good one, but better than more or less anything else we could do with the waste
waste disposal is simple... sink it in a deep sea trench... no human will be able to reach there for a VERY long period of time and if sealed properly wont do any damage to the environment until it reaches a very very impressive depth at which no man made machines are currently able to operate
not that hard? no, you simply have to keep track of 6 analogue channels at the same time... not hard at all... have you ever tried? sure once you get the hang of it it does become relatively simple but as far as remote controlling ANYTHING goes, im sure youd be hard pressed to find anything more difficult and as affordable (sub $1000)
also lets not forget profit margins... how much is microsoft losing on each x-box? how many top price games does it have to sell for each console to break even? i think with a gamecube it was something like 1 extra controller 1 memory card and 1 game brought in all that was lost on console sales, with x-box due to hardware prices they needed to sell 2-3 extra pads, a memory card and 6 games... those arent the exact figures but close enough to get the point across, for each gamecube sold nintendo profits, the reverse is true for microsoft
most people dont live in the states... linux isnt mentioned much in the news that my paretns read/watch and if i didnt have it running on my server wouldnt have a clue what it was, and most people tend not to read computer related stories...
"most people know its an operating system"
just because its mentioned a few hundred times on CNN doesnt mean most people know about it, most (defined as over 50% of the population) dont have a clue what linux is, most people wouldnt care even if they did, that the sad fact of the matter... take a poll on the street and see how many blank stares you get when you ask them what linux is, try asking them what it is if they tell you they know... good luck
im not sure about china but im sure it must be similar... in russia it is required for you to carry around ID at all times, as in your national passport, not your international one. most communist countries follow this system, and even to get a prepaid phone you must present your passport of which they take a quick photocopy... i guess fakes are easy enough to obtain and probably a worthwhile risk for an entrepreneur, as such
i found most of those funny except for the lil chechneya ting... youre still conscripted in russia, by which i mean sent to get your legs blown off because a bunch of dickheads hate authority a little too much, but hey... oh yeh, i though it was sminoff...
quite a few really, especially now that plasmas are becoming more commonplace (at least among my aquaintances, about 10% have plasma tvs) most of which seem to have a DVI input, quite a few people willing to fork out for a tv with a price tag in that range is likely to want something that gets the signal to the screen as precisely as possible, and that would be avoiding switching to analog til the last possible moment... but anyway, its a cool feature to have... im sure their profit margins are still significant at that price (dvd players can be bought for sub $100 so...)
i dont know how it is in the states... i dont think texting really took off there, nearly as much as it did in the UK or around europe, from what ive heard its quite big in australia as well... i get a few spam sms messages a month and though this is nowhere near the level of email spam, it is much easier to combat, as phone use, especially with texts, can easily be traced and excessive text use will be easily seen, simple... but yeh... tsmy pointless comments
its easy to get 3 people to agree on where to eat, just use brute force... im sure the same will be possible with the internet... extreme causes call for extreme measures... i think "migrating" to the new service, were it ever to exist, wouldnt work too well, at least not in a reasonable short time period, you need a government (say australias, it likes that sort of thing) to place a cap on number of emails sent per person per day, that would require much higher surveilance leading to a demand for a new service which wasnt "officially" email, hell, why not just ban e-mail in its current form, would be fun to watch the consequences
400 square metres is a VERY large area, easily enough for 6 people to live in comfortably... my question would be how much of it would be taken up for storage of food, equipment, etc... and how big would the "space ship" have to be to accomodate such a project? i guess it would have to be built in space, the ISS gives a nice base
comunication delays of 30 minutes? the sun is what? a couple light minutes away? was it 8 or am i confusing it with light seconds from the moon? anyway... imagine the lag... 30 minutes one way, 30 the other... thats something like 3600000 ms, good enough for a decent game of quake? definitely
